I love farm updates from my father.  He castrated calves a month ago.  We used to use a burdizzo tool for castration, ah, vivid memories from my childhood. Though it was hard on the calves (some screamed in horror, some took the pain, silently), I've heard it's less painful (due to pain lasting moments, vs. pain lasting for days) than surgical
