Six Years

It was outrageous to think about the last six years. He would say emotional, but Ian didn’t want to be a pussy.

But when he just considered it for a moment, forgot about any other trying thing that he was working on in the present, it really was emotional. It was six years tomorrow that they had made the smosh channel. Six years since this whole amazing thing started for them. Six years of hard work, planning, many successes, few failures and problems, good times, bad times, hard times. What a ride.

He thought about how intensely different his life would have been if not for Smosh. Where would he be now? In college? With a job? Would he have a different girlfriend? Would Anthony still be his best friend? If Smosh had never come to be, how would his life had gone?

Ian shook his head at the enormous thought. He didn’t even want to think about that. He wouldn’t trade these last six years for anything in the world. He was making a living doing what he loved, and doing it with the people he loved.

Ian got up from his bed and padded over to grab his cell phone from his nightstand. He sent a quick tweet, an emotional one- he didn’t tweet many of those. But he thought it fitting. “Tomorrow is 6 years of Smosh on YouTube. 1 BILLION video views, and 1 of our favorite videos ever released today. What a feeling. Thank you.” It really didn’t do his feelings justice, but that was the amount that 140 characters would allow.

Ian placed his phone back on his nightstand and decided to go find Anthony. He wanted to share his thoughts with his business partner, his best friend, his brother from another mother. Nothing would have ever come about with Anthony and his ideas. None of it would have happened.

Ian discovered Anthony in his room, uploading diligently. He saw himself dressed as Link from Zelda on the huge iMac, and found himself smiling. How much better to celebrate the sixth year than by releasing one of their favorite projects of all time?

“Anthony.” Ian caught the attention of his friend and gave him the biggest smile. It was embarrassing, but there were actual tears in his eyes. Just to add to his femininity, he held out his arms, inviting Anthony for a hug.

He was surprised to see Anthony rise without question or quip and take his place in the arms of Ian. “I know, man.” Anthony stated simply. The stood there for awhile, sharing their simple bro-hug, thinking about the past, present, and future.

“Thank you, Ant. It would be completely different without you.” Ian whispered into his best friends ear, smiling, and squeezing him tighter. A tear leaked from one eye and landed on Anthony’s shirt.

“You too, bud. You too.” Anthony smiled and returned the squeeze. He couldn’t wait to see what the next six years would bring.

He could only hope they’d be as amazing as the last.
