Life Update
Figured it was time for one of these to break up all the posts of me talking about television/films/video games.
Here's my progress on the 9-Step Guide to Running Away to Australia:
Step 1: Apply for Australian Working Holiday Visa.
Step 2a: (if visa is granted) Book flights, then have 'oh my god what am I doing' panic. Proceed to Step 3.
Step 2b: (if application is rejected). Cry lots, then have 'oh my god what am I going to do now' panic. End.
Step 3: Arrange travel insurance/health insurance/theft-of-precious-MacBook insurance.
Step 4: Arrange Tax File Number, bank account and Australian SIM card.
Step 5: Do job-related stuff like joining job-seeker websites, working on CV, possibly getting 'Responsible Service of Alcohol' qualification etc.
Step 6: Buy really sturdy backpack and Scotland flag patch to sew onto aforementioned. The patch is very important.
Step 7: Fly to Australia, attempt not to throw up during landing.
Step 8: Find true calling in life/the secret to happiness/fame and fortune/the real meaning of our existence on Earth/handome, intelligent, straight, single Australian man (this last one is actually fairly low on my list of priorities).
Step 9: Send postcards.
I'm adamant that my progress would be rather more noticeable if I'd a) put all the steps in the right order and b) included other steps like 'check if I need injections' and 'make sure eye prescription is up-to-date'. Particularly given that I've achieved those last two things: the answer to the first was 'no' and the answer to the second was (or will be, once they're ready) spending £160 on new glasses.
Anyway, I'm working on my CV (reluctantly, because I hate doing it) and have decided that Step 4 isn't really do-able until I'm actually in the country. I suppose internet-based research kind of counts as work towards it, though.
In other news, this may be one of the strangest things I've ever seen on the Internet. Made even better by the fact you can see they're all using Macs.
