Like I could do something about it. I have several Bama friends who are some of the nicest folks I know, but the over-the-top, obnoxious Bama fans do get on my ( Read more... )

More of our tax dollars go to killing them. It's more expensive for one shot than it is for them to do time.

i personally didn't take offense to it, the comments i posted were just to kind of clarify why i (and i think most bama fans) bring up the national title issue. it's just part of our program and culture, the same reason we all still wear houndstooth hats and play rammer jammer after a win. every school has their traditions and with a rivalry as bitter as this one it's much better to talk about it than just attack one another.

and you're definitely right about there being obnoxious people on both sides. from my experience, i get along much better with auburn fans who have actually been auburn fans all their lives, because they understand the kind of traditions i'm talking about. the current wave of bandwagon jumping auburn fans seems to not have a clue.

it actually cost more of your tax dollars to pay for the litigation that sentences convicts to death than paying for their cost of living.

A 1997 study by the law department at Northwestern University found that 1 in 7 capital cases in Indiana, where Northwestern is located, had enough evidence to call the verdict into question, and a few of the cases, that were found guilty in the first trial, were later reversed. Things like, state-appointed (that is, free for poor defendants) defense attorneys falling asleep in the middle of trial, if they showed up at all, evidence that supported not guilty claims being suppressed illegally, and jury tampering were among the problems that the students discovered. These guys were about to be killed on our tax dollars for nothing more than being railroaded by a legal community hellbent on vengeance. They were found innocent in new trials. How many times have you heard about rape and murder cases from the 1980's that have been overturned with the introduction of DNA evidence?

You advocate capital punishment, you're lending tacit approval to killing innocent men and women, too, simple as that.
