So, I'm not even going to try to answer your questions right now...sorry.
What I want to say is that I feel like I am mentally flexible that way also. I think that trait is what allows me to listen to people and things going on--because I'm not really attached to what I am already thinking about something. What I am attached to is knowing everything I can know about something. I will then reinforce, make up or change my mind appropriately.
So, my question is...Is this the basis of us being "people who think a lot". I mean, is the flexibility what allows us to think a lot (because we don't have to hide ideas from ourselves). Or...is it the other way...we think a lot (naturally or something?) and therefore our flexibility grows because we have a lot of ideas to choose from etc.?
I'm pretty sure that there are people who think about everything who are not very flexible. Thinkers have a curiosity and wonder, a desire to understand, which are conducive to being more flexible. But it's easy to fall into a trap of a specific way of thinking, and instead of considering alternatives, you spend all of your time fitting your reflextions into that framework. So there might be a Freudian who things about everything, but still misses out because he is stuck with a limitted worldview. I think that the crucial step is just believing that tackling an issue from different angles is possible. This belief can come from different places. Then you have to believe that playing with ideas in this way is a good thing to do. And that means buying into the philosopher's game....and I don't really know why we play...
