I'm sure you'd feel much the same way after being trapped in a shopping mall for five hours during the pre-holiday rush. I suggest you go tomorrow, get a feel for it, then persuade me to feel otherwise.

On the contrary -- it's not so bad if you learn how to manage through malls. But Western customs involving impatience must be a factor here.

It's "Western custom" not to have any patience at all.

Perhaps it would be much wiser to offer such gifts after the holiday season has long since passed. Perhaps just before it begins next year.
