Chapter 2

“Camui Gackt,” A voice called.

Gackt turned around and found four boys standing behind him. One of them who had brown-red hair was wearing a bright red jacket. The boy beside him had black messy hair and his clothing was also messy and baggy. The other two boys were almost the same height, one had his hair’s spikes pointing into the air haphazardly, and the last one was wearing a cap, his bangs were too long so he had to comb them to the side.

“Yes?” Gackt answered, not knowing who the four teens were.

“My name’s Tetsuya Ogawa, from class B. This is Ken; beside him are Yukihiro and Kaz.” Tetsuya introduced his friends and him himself to Gackt, pointing to each other. “I heard what you did for Hyde from Yukkie yesterday.”

Gackt understood and nodded. “Yeah.”

“What he wanted to say is thanks for helping our friend.” Ken interrupted and shoved his hands into his pocket.

“Ken-chan!” Tetsuya wailed.

“I’m just helping you to skip the speech, no need to be such a gentleman.” Ken rolled his eyes. “Geez.”

Tetsuya continued pouting like a child who failed to sneak candy from his parents while Yukihiro and Kaz shrugged.

“It’s alright,” Gackt smiled. “What that bastard did was wrong anyway.”

“Mm-hmm,” Kaz gave Gackt a mysterious smirk. “Are you sure you weren’t up to something? I smell something fishy.”

“What? I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“Gackt-san, Chachamaru told us that you’re in love with Hyde,” Yukihiro continued Kaz’s sentence.

Gackt dropped his jaw and his eyes were as big as dinner plates. He can’t believe that Chachamaru told his so called “secret” to the other guys. Ken, Yukihiro and Kaz started to giggle whereas Tetsuya was sulking.

“Damn,” Gackt muttered, looking away from the four boys when he blushed.

“Oh my God you are in love with him! I was right you are-” Ken exclaimed, pointing at the lover boy. Tetsuya and Yukihiro had to cup his face to stop him becoming a loud speaker that would get everyone in the corridor’s attention.

“Shush will you?” Kaz lectured, glaring at the taller boy.

Ken finally freed himself from his two friends grasp and snapped back to Kaz. “Shorty you’ve no right to lecture at me. No one does.”

“I’m not shorty! Hyde is!” Kaz squeaked and joined Tetsuya, sulking.

Yukihiro and Gackt looked at each other and shooked hands, smiling. “Oh I almost forgot. Thanks for saving my butt yesterday, or else Hyde’s mum would be lecturing me all night long.”

“No problem. Speaking of which - Where’s Hyde?” Gackt looked around the four friends. “I didn’t see him with any of you guys.”

Yukihiro frowned. “He’s absent. He’s always absent when something like that yesterday happened. Did you know how he covered me from his mother’s scolding?”

Gackt shook his head.

“He swallowed some kind of pill from his parents’ drug cabinet on purpose. Well that’s what he messaged me last night.” Yukihiro shrugged. “I think he’ll be having a stomachache today.”

Gackt’s eyes widened. What did he do to himself? Gackt scolded Hyde in his thoughts. He would’ve risked his own health that dummy!

“I see,” Gackt disguised his thoughts immediately.

The bell rang and Yukihiro glared at his remaining three friends acting childishly. “Well we’ll be going now, Yamamoto-sensei wouldn’t be happy if we’re late again.”

“Okay,” Gackt waved goodbye to his new friends. “Yukkie,”

“Yes Gackt-san?” Yukihiro turned his head.

“Can I follow you to Hyde’s house today?”

Yukihiro stared at the tall boy for a while, and his lips formed a smile. “Of course you can follow. Meet us at the school gate after school.”

Gackt nodded and bid the boys goodbye. He was also going to hurry to class or else he would end up getting detention. He must maintain himself as a star student even though he transferred to a new school.

Before Gackt left he felt someone tugging his jacket. He turned his head a bit and saw Tetsuya beside him.

“Hey.”

“Tetsuya I thought you’re going to-”

“I am.” Tetsuya interrupted. “I’m warning you now; don’t play with Doiha’s feelings if you’re really in love with him. He’s too broken in this state and I can’t bear to see him get worse.”

“W-what’s a Doiha?” Gackt spurt out his question.

“That’s just a nickname I gave Hyde,” Tetsuya pouted. “Hey - Don’t change the subject!”

“I’m not!”

“You little-” Tetsuya had a look on his watch by coincidence and realized he couldn’t argue with Gackt any longer. “Never mind. Just… Don’t hurt him, promise?”

Gackt gulped as Tetsuya’s expression was scary, as if his eyes were fire. He quickly bobbed his head, promising he will and follow Tetsuya’s warnings.

“And one more thing,” Tetsuya said with a blank expression before he left. “He’ll never be yours. Hyde is mine.”

Tetsuya’s words left Gackt standing in the corridor as the other boy hurriedly ran to class. Lost in his mind, Gackt was still shocked by what the boy had said. Tetsuya’s words kept repeating in his mind:

“He’ll never be yours. Hyde is mine.”

“Why is he here?” Tetsuya folded his arms, not enjoying Gackt’s presence among his friends.

“Gackt here insisted to visit Hyde,” Yukihiro followed Ken and Kaz, walking out of the school compound. Yukihiro was walking in the middle of Gackt and Tetsuya to prevent them quarelling. “Isn’t he nice?”

“Pfft he’s just another fucker who wants to get Hyde into his bed.” Tetsuya yelled out his anger. “Ouch! What did you do that for?” He shouted as Yukihiro elbowed him. Ken and Kaz snickered.

“For not respecting others.” Yukihiro gave him a brief reply.

“You’re all jerks.” Tetsuya stuck out his tongue, mocking Gackt and Yukihiro.

The walk took the five teenagers for about ten minutes and they soon reached a huge apartment. Kaz led the group through the lobby to the lift, pressing on a button from a huge row of silver buttons.

The lift brought them to the tenth floor of the huge building. As they stepped out of the lift Gackt was brought to a unit in the end to the floor.

“The five of us are living in the same floor,” Yukihiro explained.

“And every one of us lived in the unit next to each other since young, that’s what made us stuck together.” Ken continued.

“Hey!” Kaz and Tetsuya grimaced. “At least you’re always taking the advantage of coming to our homes copying our homework since you were in elementary school!”

“Yeah, yeah whatever.” Ken shrugged and pressed the door bell.

Minutes later a woman opened the door. She was dressed in a nice dress and her hair was dyed beautifully. She didn’t look a bit old, but Gackt guessed the woman was Hyde’s mother. No wonder she gave birth to such a pretty boy.

“Hi boys.” Hyde’s mum greeted. She smiled faded when she saw the boy in the group whom she had never seen before - Gackt. “This is…”

“Camui Gackt.” Kaz, Tetsuya and Ken answered in unison. “Don’t worry; he’s one of those star student kids.”

Mrs. Takarai examined Gackt from top to toe and finally spoke, smiling. “Well he doesn’t look like a thug to me. You passed.”

“Thanks ma’am.” Gackt grinned and followed the other boys into Hyde’s room.

Hyde’s room was simple, a black low bed with white sheets, cream coloured wallpaper, a dark cupboard and a wall of tall shelves. Gackt liked his room very much, but he disliked how Hyde’s guitars and amplifiers were laying on the floor. Tab sheets were scattered on his study desk along with his pencils and books. The only thing in the room that was tidy was Hyde’s CD shelf.

There was a small bulge under the heavy white blankets on the king sized bed and the five boys guessed who was under it. Tetsuya hopped over the guitars and stood by the bed. He pulled up the blankets, and Hyde really was under it.

“Gaahh!” He yelped, hugging his small laptop, staring at the teenagers in shock. “What are you all doing in my room?”

Ken and Yukihiro smirked at Hyde’s frightened face while Kaz helped to put the guitars back to the guitar stand, making the room look tidier.

“Visiting you, what else?” Tetsuya tousled Hyde’s hair. “Look who’s here.” Tetsuya pointed at Gackt who gave a small smile. Caramel eyes widened.

“Hello,” Gackt smiled.

“Hi.” Hyde replied nervously, still hugging his laptop.

“What’s that you’ve got there?” Ken snatched the laptop from Hyde’s hug, deactivating its hibernating mode.

“Hey that’s mine!” Hyde wailed but Ken pushed him away and started to browse through the browser windows.

“Pepper spray, guitars, books, clothes - Hey that’s this season’s newest jacket!” Ken pointed on the screen excitedly. Kaz took a peek and made a mental note to surf the net to find that jacket when he gets home. “Movies, Devilman.” He finished. “You’re so dead when your mum finds out you bought Devilman stuff again. Last month you spent over 10,000 yen on this stuff!”

“She wouldn’t dare to throw them away even when it’s delivered here.” Hyde stuck out his tongue. “She knows how much they cost.”

“Spoiled brat.” Tetsuya teased.

“It’s your fault you’re not the only child in the family so I can buy anything I like.” Hyde took back his precious laptop from Ken, sighing.

Kaz took some books and papers from his bag, handling them to Hyde. “Today’s homework from the teacher.”

Hyde scanned through the books immediately and threw them aside, pouting. “This is too much. I can’t finish these much in a day.”

“Sensei said that you could hand them later after you finished them.” Kaz stood up and walked to the study desk, tidying it up and stacked the homework and books. “If you want to you can do it now.”

“Only a dummy would do homework when he’s having a leave.” Hyde set his laptop on his lap, clicking on stuff. “Now would you all excuse me, I have some shopping to continue.”

Gackt looked disappointed as he got only a little attention from the small boy. He came here so he could strengthen his relationship with Hyde, but Hyde didn’t pay any attention to him. How Gackt wished that he was Hyde’s laptop so he could get his hugs and stares without any effort.

“How ‘bout you talk to Gackt? I’ve to go get a shower now.” Yukihiro pushed Gackt towards Hyde’s bed, and took advantage of pulling Tetsuya up from it on his feet.

“See ya Doiha-chan,” Tetsuya sobbed as he was dragged out of the room by force with the help of Ken who had bigger strength.

“It’s ‘Haido’ you idiot,” Hyde corrected him, not looking up from the laptop screen.

Kaz took a glance at the remaining two boys in the room before leaving. Gackt sat down on the bed staring at Hyde while Hyde’s eyes were completely stuck onto the screen.

“Bye Hyde,” He said, smiling as he grabbed his bag. “I’ll be coming over after dinner to tutor you on your homework. You’ve missed a lot of the lessons in school.”

“Thanks but I don’t need it. I need to relax.” Hyde waved his hand, his other hand pressing on some keys on the laptop keyboard. “Just shoo, okay?”

Kaz merely shook his head in disappointment as he walked out of Hyde’s bedroom. Hyde wasn’t always this angst, his friendly personality had changed and he’d locked his heart behind his layers of cold attitude for years after the incident when he was in junior high.

“Is it… Okay to reject his offer? Hyde,” Gackt spoke after minutes of silence with the small boy addicted to online shopping. “What Kaz-san wanted to do is to help you for real. You can’t be always so antisocial and keep yourself out of people.”

Hyde titled his head gawking incredulously at Gackt. He was stunned. No one ever dared to lecture him no matter how bad the situation had been, not even his parents. Gackt was the first person who dared to give him a lecture on how he behaved to other people since Hyde’s incident.

“I’m alright and I can do what I want.” Hyde huffed, turning his head to the half opened glass window beside his bed. “It’s none of your business, now get lost.”

“Why are you always being such a meanie to people?” Gackt frowned. “It’s not polite to be mean.”

Hyde stared at Gackt and huffed again. “Because people are cons and frauds, they hide their real feelings and act like an ass-kisser to other people, and that makes me sick. You don’t have to act like you care.”

“I’m not.” Gackt denied. “You’re going out with me tomorrow. Enjoy some activities normal teenagers our age do. ”

Hyde’s head shot up from the laptop screen, staring at Gackt in shock. What did I just hear? No, it can’t be! “W-why should I?” He gulped, wandering what was the other boy’s answer.

Gackt smirked and crossed his arms. “You’re being so antisocial.” He pinched Hyde’s cheek. “Boys in our age now should go out and have fun with their friends, not staying at home! You’re taking me around town again since I’m still new.”

“Hey! You went out with your friends already that day! They’re your tour guide, not me!” Hyde protested as he pushed Gackt’s hand away from his porcelain face, rubbing it a little. He could still remember that day he saw Gackt at the café.

“Mm-hmm,” Gackt merely give him a big smile. “You’re to blame that I saw you and I was love struck-” He paused while Hyde’s jaw dropped.

Gackt immediately blushed heavily as he had just told Hyde what he felt for him. He clamped his talkative mouth as the small boy also began to blush.

No words were spoken however the silence was broken by Gackt’s apologizes after a couple of minutes. “I’m s-sorry… I didn’t mean to say that.”

Hyde remained silent, staring at Gackt. It was a glare that showed Gackt to Hyde he was hateful in an instance. Gackt shuddered, not knowing what to do next to overcome the situation.

Is it run, or continue staring at each other?

“Whatever.” Hyde muttered at last, giving the other brunette a death glare. “I can show you around town, but promise me, please, don’t ever say that again. Stupid confessions.”

Gackt’s face lightened up from his gloomy expression. He was surprised and relieved from the answer Hyde gave him. “Y-you’ll come?”

“Yeah.” Hyde shut down his laptop, getting out from bed and placed it on his now tidy desk, thanks to Kaz. He and Kaz had been best of friends since they were in kindergarten and because Hyde wasn’t always doing his work perfectly and he can’t handle stuff properly, Kaz was often there to help him solve his problems.

“Haido-chan,” Five year old Kaz called for his friend, “Haido-chan,” But got no answer.

It was recess in the kindergarten and children were all over the place, playing and laughing happily. Kaz couldn’t find his little friend in the mess hall or at the school playground, so he went calling for him. After looking for sometime he heard sniffles coming from somewhere, and his sight turned to a tree nearby.

Kaz ran towards the huge tree and saw little Hyde cringed between huge stems, crying.

“Hyde!” He exclaimed, squatting down to the same height as his small sized friend.

Hyde continued crying, not even looking up at his worried friend.

“Hyde what happened?” Kaz asked. His delicate face was full of worry, odd for a boy his age to be worrying at something.

“T-toshi,” The small boy tilted his head up a little, but the crying didn’t stop. “H-he teased me again. He said… I look like a girl so when I grow up he’s going to let his elder brother in my pants.” “I don’t want anyone in my pants…”

Hyde was always being bullied around since the first year of kindergarten, often because he was small, weak and he looked feminine.

Fury took over Kaz’s worried face he pulled Hyde up from his position. “We’re going to have a talk with Toshi.”

The smaller child merely gawked at his friend in bewilderment, not knowing what he would do to his bully.

That afternoon Kaz was punished by standing outside of the classroom as punishment for giving Toshi a black eye. The punishment was terrible for little children his age, but it was worth it because Toshi didn’t dare to tease Hyde ever again.

“Yessh!” Gackt threw his hands up in the air and hugged Hyde tightly. “Thank you sooooo much!”

Hyde was astonished by the sudden embrace, pushing Gackt’s body away from his. When he finally managed to get the tall boy away, sweat was formed on his small frame. Hyde took a handkerchief from his closet and wiped his sweaty face, sending death glares to Gackt again.

“Out,” He pointed to the door.

“What?”

“I said; get your fucking ass out of my room! Now!” Hyde snapped, fury taking over his feelings.

Gackt saw the vague dark aura circling the small boy whom he addressed him as “angel”. Too bad the angel was possessed by a demon now, Gackt pouted while he ran out of the room before getting kicked in the butt.
