Chapter 3

Hyde’s doorbell rang. He ignored the person in front of his house, cuddling his pillow, trying to continue sleeping.

The doorbell rang for the second time, and rang again and again. Hyde groaned and climbed out from his warm, cozy bed, forcing himself to the door. He cussed some vulgar words as he walked to the door slowly, and he found a tall boy in front of his door. The brunette had bleu eyes and was wearing a checkered red jacket with a white shirt inside and with dark coloured sneakers.

The boy was Gackt.

“Ohayou,” He greeted, smiling.

“What the hell are you doing here?” Hyde snapped. “It’s Saturday and it’s only nine in the morning!”

Gackt furrowed his eye brow, since he usually wakes up during dawn and works out. He must’ve forgotten what we were going to do today, he pouted. “I thought you promised me to show me around town?”

“And I thought I told you to get lost.” Hyde was in a cranky mood for being waked up from his slumber.

“Hyde I lo-”

“Okay, okay. I get it,” Hyde frowned. He immediately remembered that Gackt had accidentally confessed his feelings yesterday. “I’ll get ready. Wait here and don’t move.” He pointed to a black sofa in the lounge.

“All right,”

Hyde mumbled something inaudible to Gackt and marched to his bedroom. Minutes later he came out from the bathroom, wearing a plain white long-sleeved parka and a pair of black jeans. His caramel eyes widened instantly.

Gackt was in his room.

“Why are you in my room?” He gawked at the tall boy. “I told you to wait outside!”

“I was taking a better look at your room. It’s nice,” Gackt grinned, putting his hands in his pocket. “But it’s messy. You shouldn’t treat your guitars like that.” He picked up a cherry red guitar from the ground.

“I do what I want and you’ve no right to lecture me. You can choose whether you want to get out of my room, or my house.” Hyde put both of his hands on his hips, showing that he’s pissed off. “If you choose to leave my house, don’t think about going out with me later.”

“Sorry,” Gackt walked out of the room.

“You looked cute in Doraemon pajamas,” Gackt teased.

“Oh shut up will you?”

Both boys were walking across a busy street. Hyde showed Gackt his favourite boutique, café and such places which he liked to hang out. People gave them strange glances as they’ve never seen the small boy with people other than his family or his close friends. Hyde merely ignored and walked away nonchalantly.

“And here’s the amusement park,” Hyde pointed to a huge space beside them.

Gackt ran up the stairs and took a small peek through the entrance. There were many rides; there were also thrill rides which suited teens their age’s interests. Gackt turned his back to go down the stairs and saw Hyde, panting as he had just reached the top of the stairs.

“You lack exercising. That’s what made you think it’s hard to run up a flight of stairs. You’ve low stamina.” Gackt teased, smirking.

“Urusai,” Hyde grimaced. He seldom met someone like Gackt who loved to tease and gave him lectures his parents didn’t dare. He was a spoiled brat just like Tetsuya said he was. However, he didn’t admit it. “Do you want to buy tickets?”

Gackt lifted one eye brow. “For what?”

“For the amusement park. You must buy tickets to enter, dummy.” Hyde rolled his eyes. “Your action just now tells me you wanted to enter.”

Gackt blushed and nodded eagerly. Hyde caught him.

Hyde ran down the stairs quickly and came back with two tickets in his hands about fifteen minutes later. He was sweating, strands of hair sticking together. Gackt snickered as he laughed at Hyde’s state.

“Aaaahh!” Hyde screamed as the roller coaster turned upside down. He had been screaming since they got up the ride. Gackt laughed as hard as he could at the smaller boy’s high-pitched voice. He was kinda entertained by it.

The boys came out from their ride later with messy hairs. Hyde’s face was almost completely blue and he frowned.

“I think I’m going to be sick,” He clamped his hand on his mouth. “Thank Kami-sama I didn’t eat any breakfast just now.”

“I should’ve taken a video of you just now,” Gackt smiled, handing Hyde a sandwich he bought after the ride and took out his mobile phone. He took a photo of Hyde’s face and showed it to his companion. “Look at this.”

Hyde frowned when he saw the photo Gackt had taken. His face was paler than normal and his hair was really, really messy. He combed his hair with his fingers, “Delete it.”

“Aww why?” Gackt wailed. “It’s so pretty!”

The new photo in Gackt’s mobile was terribly priceless to him. It was the first photo he took, featuring Hyde, albeit the photo wasn’t nicely taken.

“Delete it I’ll have the urge of vomiting on you. Now!” Hyde ordered furiously.

“Suit yourself…” Gackt wept and clicked on some buttons of his phone. Actually, what he deleted was some other photo in his phone’s photo gallery. He didn’t scrub out the photo of Hyde. He gave a small smile that he won, without anyone noticing.

Gackt gave the idea of taking those steady rides since Hyde was now terrified of thrill rides, like roller coasters. They went for childish rides instead such as teacup rides, the merry-go-round, and much more, making Hyde complaining.

“Since you’re always complaining…” Gackt shrugged. “Then let’s enter that.”

Hyde followed the direction Gackt’s finger pointed, almost giving out a shriek. Gackt pointed to a haunted house behind them, it was decorated with spooky decors and there were ghostly sounds coming out from the place.

Hyde shivered and shook his head. “We’re not going there.”

“But you didn’t want to go to any of the other rides so we’re going in.” Gackt put his hands on his hips, pouting.

Before Hyde could react what was going on, his eyes widened as he was already dragged to the entrance of the haunted house by his companion.

“Enjoy your ride,” A lady in her early twenties responsible for the eerie haunted house smiled and locked the door behind the two teens.

Hyde almost screamed at once when the door closed tightly, no light was seen and the corridor, Hyde assumed was darker than he thought it was. The corridor was dimly lit with tiny sparkling LED lights enough to let both of them trace they way to the exit. Hyde grasped Gackt’s hand as he was really scared. He thought that the workers would at least hand them a torch light, but they didn’t.

After entering the haunted house for a few minutes, Hyde jumped as he felt that something or someone tugged on his parka from behind. He turned around quickly and found there wasn’t anything behind him. Behind him was merely a trail of darkness, he wouldn’t dare to run back to the entrance and beg the lady to open the door.

“Gacchan,” He whimpered, almost crying. “I’m scared.”

Gackt grinned a bit, he was glad that Hyde was grabbing on his hand eagerly and he was calling him by a nickname, a lovely one to him. He turned around and his eyebrows furrowed instantly.

There were a few inhuman pranksters floating behind the couple, which Gackt knew they were real ghosts. They had mischievous smirks on their pale faces as they saw Hyde’s cowed expression. It wasn’t very bright so Gackt couldn’t see them much clearly. What he knew was he saw three of them, one with broken glasses, and one with blood stains in his plain shirt and the last one’s right arm had been torn apart, the white bones inside its body could be seen.

Gackt bit his lower lip. These ghosts weren’t harmful, but they would scare Hyde the hell out just by frightening him like this.

“Hey,” Gackt spoke. Hyde gawked at his friend’s vague frame in astonishment. He didn’t know who was Gackt talking to, but he decided that it was best to keep passive. “Stop it, you’re frightening him.”

The ghosts stared at each other, stunned by the human’s words. They thought like other normal humans they would run away, screaming and crying while they could laugh at their “preys”.

Eventually the ghost with broken glasses asked, “Aren’t you afraid of us?”

Gackt shook his head, stating his answer without talking. Hyde couldn’t hear the three creatures’ talking or understand what was going on. His legs started to limp. “I started seeing ghosts like you three since I was a child. No big deal. What are your names? Surely you have one when you’re alive.”

The third ghost mumbled something to its two other companions, frowning. “He’s Kosuke, Ryosuke and I’m Daisuke. You’re no fun at all. The midget was so freaked out but you weren’t.”

The medium nodded, smiling a little, trying to be friendly. However his spoken words showed that he wasn’t going to play around with the three ghosts as he lectured them. “He is so you’ve to apologize to him. What if his heart is weak? He could die from a heart attack.”

Ryosuke’s head began to lower as only he knew playing pranks wasn’t a very nice action and he was ashamed by him and his companions’ childish pranks. They had been dead for almost a century and all they’ve been doing was playing pranks on people since the amusement park was built, that was a few years ago.

“I’m sorry,” The ghosts apologized in unison.

“It’s okay; midget here will accept your apologies.” Gackt smiled. “Can you bring us out of here? My friend isn’t feeling very well.”

The three ghosts accepted his request immediately and flew to in front of them, leading them the way to the exit.

“Hyde, I want you to grab my hand as tightly as you can, okay? Don’t forget to close your eyes and don’t open them until I allow you to do so.” Gackt told Hyde and Hyde nodded, doing what he was told although he still couldn’t assimilate what happened.

The two boys ran across the dark corridor and ran past the pretend ghosts the staff of the haunted house, faking themselves to scare people. They were shocked when Gackt and Hyde ran past them furiously, not even giving them a chance of yelling “Boo”.

Minutes later the medium made it to see a little light before turning left for the exit. The three ghosts stopped immediately, a force preventing them from going on further. They grimaced and eyes were filled with sadness.

“This it our limit, we can’t go through this door any further.” Kosuke mumbled.

Gackt grew pity for the three ghosts. Dead humans’ spirits can only move on to their next lives with the help of prayers or chanting of their religion’s holy scriptures, or they’ll be bound to the earth and there is a limit of moving space at the spot they’ve died, that’s what he was told by his mother when his grandmother died.

“I’m sorry,” Gackt finally replied. He looked to the bright turn to the exit, and then the three ghosts. “I must go now… I hope you can move on as quickly as possible. It’s nice to meet you, Kosuke, Ryosuke and Daisuke.”

“It’s a pleasure to meet you too. It’s been a long time since someone noticed us.” Ryosuke forced himself a small grin.

Gackt nodded and pulled Hyde’s hand, walking towards the bright light in a steady pace.

“Sorry about the prank, boy…” Daisuke managed to whisper by Hyde’s ear albeit the normal human could not hear what he said. “Sayounara,”

“Gackt,” Hyde spoke as he opened his eyes, gasping for air. They’ve finally came out of the haunted house. Hyde was relieved that he wasn’t in that eerie place.

“Hmm?” Gackt was still holding his hand as they walked past a carousel full with children’s laughter. Gackt wondered why they put a child-friendly ride beside a scary, heart pounding haunted house.

“What exactly happened in there just now?” Hyde tilted his head, innocent-looking eyes glancing at the tall boy, making his heart squeal.

Gackt gawked at the beautiful living angel his was admiring. They were standing in a crowd of children, rushing out of the carousel to their parents as the ride had just stopped.

“You really want to know?”

Hyde bobbed his head up and down, stating that he was ready to hear Gackt’s answer. “Say it.”

“Well…” Gackt looked away from the smaller boy, pretending he didn’t care. “You could call me by the nickname ‘Gacchan’ you called me in the haunted house earlier just now.”

Caramel eyes widened and they were as big as the size of dinner plates. What did I say? I must’ve been too terrified until I wasn’t aware of what I said, Hyde frowned. “N-no I didn’t,”

“Or you want to enter the haunted house again to recall what you said,” Gackt snickered and tightened his grasp of Hyde hand. “Let’s.”

Hyde shivered and shook his hand out of the taller boy’s grasp. “I’m not going! …Gacchan…” That brief word “Gacchan” were hard to speak and by time he realized, he was blushed.

Gackt laughed out loud, making Hyde wailing to beg him to stop. “I said that word already so stop it now! It’s not funny!” Hyde’s face was as red as a tomato, furious at the other brunette’s act. “That’s it,” He turned, “I’m leaving. Have fun.”

Gackt immediately stopped his actions when he heard what he was told. He grasped on Hyde’s arm, his bleu eyes turning into puppy eyes, just about to sob. “Please don’t leave… I-I promise I’ll be good…”

Hyde merely stared at the boy beside him, people began to exchange glances with each other as their movement caught a crowd of people staring at them both. He quickly escaped from Gackt’s grasp, “What… ever… Just let me go!”

The love struck boy released his grip at once, promising that he wouldn’t do that action in front of a crowd ever again. “Gomen…”

Hyde shook his head, thinking that Gackt was actually as playful as a kid and he could only be silenced by threats like that. “Are you going to tell me what happened just now?”

Gackt nodded his head, following Hyde to sit down on a bench nearby. He watched children run around with their parents, balloon and goodies in their hands and began talking, “There were… Three ghosts in that haunted house… They’re Kosuke, Ryosuke and Daisuke respectively.”

Hyde was stunned when he heard the truth. He wanted to comment, but he let Gackt to finish the sentence. “They were playing a prank on you by tugging on your clothes and when you turned to look they’ll disappear… But actually they’re just very lonely. They didn’t go on to their next lives so they’re stuck there.”

“…Oh.”

“Don’t worry, they’re harmless. Daisuke was very sorry for playing the prank on you though. I told them ‘what if your heart is weak and you would have a heart attack’ and I guess they mistaken that your heart is really weak. He apologized once again before you walked out the exit.”

Hyde was silent, he didn’t know they would really meet real ghosts; he was positive that Gackt wasn’t lying as he was looking at him straight in the eye.

“I didn’t know you could see supernatural beings like those.” Hyde spoke softly.

“I became a medium after experiencing drowning in the sea, and I nearly died.” Gackt smiled. “I was in elementary school.”

“I see.”

Gackt looked at Hyde who was silent; he reckoned that he was still digesting the fact of ghosts existed and one had just had contact with him in the haunted house.

“Gackt…”

“Gacchan,” Gackt corrected Hyde.

“Gacchan,” Hyde repeated. “Can you see any ghosts around us now?”

Gackt stared at the smaller boy for a while, and a grin formed on his lips. “Well… There’s one fat, perverted ghost sitting beside you trying to get your attention…”

“Gaah!” Hyde shrieked as he jumped up from his seat. “H-he is?”

Gackt laughed out again, poking Hyde’s forehead gently. “Of course not silly. There aren’t any of them beside you now or else I’d chase him away.”

“Not funny.” Hyde pouted as he fell for Gackt’s prank. He saw there was a twinkle in the prankster’s bleu eyes. He blushed again and looked away from him.

The two boys continued to sit on the bench, not exchanging any words with each other, until Gackt saw something interesting in front of them.

“Hey - Let’s go see that!” He stood up and yanked Hyde from his seat, making the smaller boy to yell at him for a moment.

Gackt led his companion to a small store painted with red and white stripes. There were a few people at the store, and both of the boys got their turn quickly.

“Wanna try?” Gackt asked.

“Whatever.” was the answer he got from the smaller boy.
