Checked my download stats on the site last night and it told me that I'd had 666 downloads this month, oooo.... spooky. Also, as fun as this little digicam is, it kind of sucks for reference photos; it'll be fine for people shots (I'm going to do some 2d people too, to bulk up the the models) but for shooting close-ups of small object indoors it's ( Read more... )

Boo for camera woes. I can't see what you want from apple, there's some kind of cookie issue or something. What eeeeees eeeeeeet? When you can get a dSLR and write it off against tax, can you get me one too? ;D How are you going to 'do 2D people'?? With a steamroller?
(just woke up so if my questions are stupider than usual, that'll be why)

ooh - & meant to say - just buy a 100watt bulb and stick it in a wee lamp or something and put it next to what you want to shoot indoors? maybe? or two, if you're worried about strong shadows on one side? even a good torch'd do. and it'll eat much less batteries when you're not using flash, usually. (get ni-mh rechargeable ones!) er, hope that helps/isn't just really really obvious and condescending. I hate giving 'advice'. :\

It's a Nikon D50 with all the standard kit, plus an 18-55mm Nikkor Zoom lens and a 1GB card, for £479, which I thought wasn't bad.

I've got some ni-mh batteries, but it's eating those too :$ I'll give the lamp thing a go, it might be happier then. Shadows aren't too much of a problem, I just need really sharp photos for accuracy. I think the tax people might get a bit suspicious if I have to get two dSLR's at the same time, but we'll see. The 2D people are really simple models for the same site I mentioned earlier, they're quick to do and in demand.

Don't worry about the advice thing, I appreciate advice from you on this sort of thing, because I respect your knowledge and ability.

the d50 is really nice. If you fancy a play of one then let me know and I can lend you mine for a few days.

If you start purchasing things and writing them off against tax, you need make sure that you don't render yourself liable to pay business rates on any section of your property where you use that equipment. I'm not exactly sure what the regulations are with regards to this, but having gone throught the self-employment registration process, I'm aware that it cam be an issue.

On a side note, I'd also kill for a dSLR :-)

Yeah, my Dad's been doing this kind of stuff for years, so I've got all the details off him. I'm not going to try and claim any rates against tax, so it shouldn't be a problem (as far as I know).
