Google Talk

Aug 26, 2005 11:19

I like the idea of Google Talk, I'd like to switch to it. MSN messenger is the last little bit of Microsoft left in my life, I have already cut away the OS, messenger client, and even the hotmail address I used to access MSN, it would be nice to finally be rid of it. Hopefully GT will eventually support all the jabber based stuff so I can use it to ( Read more... )

Welllll

Oh, 'sakes, I can't be arsed typing it all out again.

See this AltNation thread. I've not tried connecting to any gateway servers via GT yet, mind.

Thing is, as much as non-Microsoft OSen are, GT's integration into GD2 is really nice :)

Ah, so they haven't configured their servers to connect to the other networks yet. To me it would make sense for them to allow the connections (they haven't said they won't in the future), it would mean they can talk all about their wonderful product and if anyone says "Oh, but I don't want to lose contact with all my friends on MSN" they can just reply "Not a problem, you can still talk to them anyway". I can see the other side too, wanting to get people completely over to their products, but I think flexibility (at least at the start) would be best.

We're committed to open communications standards, and want to offer Google Talk users and users of other service providers alike the flexibility to choose which clients, service providers, and platforms they use for their communication needs.Kind of implies they may be more flexible, but does not guarantee it ( ... )

Macs make Linux look like it's just crawled out of a cave, and Windows like some sad 80s pop duo that never quite made it.

Nuffsaid.

I've seen a few macs and they do look very shiny, a preview I saw of the next X.org looked kind of similar though, lots of flashy graphics stuff. Linux is getting a lot better, I prefer XFCE4 to any other WM I've used, support is getting better and installing things is now stupidly easy (ah, the wonders of portage). What really annoyed me about windows was the control freakery. I should be the control freak, not my OS.

I also like the fact that my computer is packed with powerful software I didn't pay for and it is all legal.

I might use it if Adium starts supporting it.
Otherwise I'll stick to AIM :)

did you say you had a copy of Macromedia thingywotsit with Flash Animator on? Is there any chance I could acquire it off you tomorrow? Or as soon after that as possible :)
