well all i can say is thanks for reading and then i can be secretly overjoyed that you're squeeing at my well whatever it is! was there ever a reason given for annie's death, writers problems, actress wanting to leave? i never understood why they'd just kill her and it ruined a perfectly good day for me too, sure it wasn't just dandy for annie! lol

To be honest, I never thought to go looking for an official reason for killing off Annie. I always just assumed that it was an excuse to crank up Murphy's angst-o-meter even higher than it already was. I know there was some conflict between Colin Bateman, who wanted to keep things lighter and more humorous, and James Nesbitt, who wanted to take things in a darker and grittier direction, but I can't remember if that started when they were working on the second or third series.

Speaking of Colin Bateman, have you read the novels? They're like AU versions of the pilot episode (Murphy's Law) and the last episode of the second series (Murphy's Revenge). Annie doesn't get mentioned at all in Murphy's Revenge, but the Jack the Ripper musical gets brought up several times without any mention of any stabbings that might be connected to it. Since the book never says why Annie isn't there and the case that killed her apparently never happened in this version, I like to pretend that she just isn't working with Murphy anymore rather than

murphy had a pretty high angst-o-meter his kid was damned dead for god's sake and he thought it was his fault, why kill off his soulmate... yes i can be a sappy girl! lol
