i agree with you (i don't bother eating crabs if i can help it) but i guess to some people crab meat is High Yield! i.e. it may be low in quantity but each gram of that 50g might be worth several dollars to them if they could describe its value in monetary terms.
yeah and i thought about why people don't just serve the meat and not the shells, but i realized that's part of the whole experience, like you can't just separate the flesh and the shells. it would look so pathetic on a plate
