I had this really negative reaction yesterday to my manager giving me space to do my job. Which is amusing in a ton of very ironic directions. My assumption has been that he has backed off lately in an effort to give me time to smooth out the rough edges and get back on schedule. Much of my position doesn't have hard and fast deadlines. Meaning,

You might want to pro-actively schedule a check-in meeting with your boss on a regular basis. This will give you the attention you need, but also give him the chance to give you a heads-up on anything new, give you new opportunities, and, well, it's always good to have face-time with the boss.
