Oh look - its the office with external access and no blocks on LJ/similar. The joy of being in one of our own offices on and off, even for for the latest project of doom ( Read more... )

I've only got an LJ account, though I've a lurking invite to Facebook from Tony that I'll take up one day, honest.

I've had this account for over 4 years and I don't see any reason not to still be using it in another 7. I'd like to keep recording Charles's development here, for a start. So that was my main reason, but the low exchange rate brought it below 80 pounds which didn't feel horrendously expensive.

I gave my remaining paid time to Tony, my remaining userpic time to another friend. I don't think I can give away any of my other 'bits', only that which I'd already paid for and would effectively be paying "twice over" for as it's covered by the permanent account.

Just about everything you said works for me, except the FaceBook bit.

I only have one "social networking" account, and it's this one. Tried Orkut once, ran away.

'crawled slowly away'.

Nothing about Orkut could possibly include anything as energetic as running.

I occasionally get badgered by a friend to join some kind of network that isn't LJ. Being agreeable, I go and join, then I never use it again. I prefer not to have a split online personality. :-)

If you have paid time remaining after you've bought a permanent account, there is a mechanism to give that to another user, but I can't remember what it is. I was lucky enough to be given a permanent account, and I did give someone the rest of my paid time.

I have this lj, a few back-up but unused accounts on things like multiply and greatestjournal, and a facebook account. Facebook I keep entirely separate from lj. The only people I know in rl on lj are people who I initially met either online, or through people I know online. Facebook is for people I know only in real life.

I have a permanent account because of an incredibly generous anonymous benefactor from the last sale. I don't think I'd have bought one for myself, though I hope that I will still be using this in seven years. That mostly depends on if the people I like stay around though.

My permanent account was actually a gift from knell. I have had my journal for over six years, though, so it's no great stretch to imagine that I'd still be using it in 2014. For someone like me (who lives a plane ride away from the majority of her acquaintances) it only makes sense.

As for other networking sites, I have an account on most of them (baaaa, etc.) but find myself looking at Facebook more often than I would expect to. I still haven't worked out why.

Yeah, I find myself on Facebook more often than I thought too. It just seems like there's more to do than on other sites with all the apps and stuff. I think it'd be a bit rubbish for blogging though.
