What are we supposed to be doing right now? Are we supposed to be living for fun and life and love, or is our only purpose at the moment to get good grades so that we ensure ourselves a future? Are we supposed to accept that we will not be able to do the things we like and be with the people we love because we have homeowrk? Or are

i think we should do what we want to do. if we want to get a great house/car/job someday, then we work toward that; but if we want to screw around and share a house with a roommate until we can marry someone to support us, then we do that. that's absolutely the bottom line.

one's "responsible" and one's "irresponsible". i believe that we should be who we WANT to be--no more, no less.

for me, that means screwing around and doing what i can to get a good education, while maintaining joy above all.

but remember that high school in no way determines your future--it's just a stepping stone. HS and college are really just a training ground for life, and whatever you do out there in the big wide world won't be affected by your life at age 16 all that much. i think at Aliso, we put way too much emphasis on grades/homework = success in life, rather than looking at the big picture.

But we're told over and over that getting good grades here means a good college, and a good college means a good job, and a good job means a good life. Argh. See, I would be totally happy in 3-room flat if I had a really awesome job. But I don't want to go out into the world going "I have to marry someone rich" because I need a nice home for my family. So confusing.

It does seem stupid. I love you for Erikson; YES! But moderation in what. Does that mean I should get B's, only let guys hold my hand, and only watch 10 minute movies with my friends? Hehe.
