Options

My options are not all that clear now. The simplest one is the just graduate with a Masters degree and abandon my PhD aspirations. That would mean I'd have to start looking for a job now and abandon all my research. Another option I am looking at is transferring to another department in the same university. Good luck . . . couldn't you go the way of teach and research elsewhere? Just a suggestion.

I like the research I'm doing here. Could I do it elsewhere? Probably, but I'll lose years of work.

Academics aside, what do you want to -do-? The degrees should support the plans, not the other way around.

Good question. And I'm a bit short of answers there. I like my life as it is now. But there needs to be concrete goals. It' so easy for everyone else who justs want to get a good job and make money. But I'm not sure I want to walk the beaten path.. there has to be more. Just that I'm not sure what.

I'd say there's no more important thing than figuring that out. Until then, you're just collecting degrees that are ultimately meaningless to your life. Why pursue a doctorate in something you don't even really know is what you want to do? *waves crash in the background* Until you feel yourself on the path you want to go down, you'll never feel what it's like to truely liiiiive.

Oh, sorry.

The problem with beaten paths is that everyone else is already camping the good spawn points.
