Probably going to end up being a W-I-P forever. Includes headcanon re: Fabian and the kids.
So, where Fabian's from, magic is fairly common. If you're a living, sentient being, more or less you meet the criteria to be able to use magic; it's more of a matter whether you're willing to deal with the steep learning curve and the initial side effects.
Except where Fabian's actually from, the ability to conventionally use magic is extremely rare, thanks to some backstory things that basically amounts to the whole country being cursed with magic!fail. Strictly speaking, they're not unable to use magic entirely, but they can't use most magic spells and are limited to simply transferring energy to another object/person. They have healers (since healing magic essentially is transferring your energy to another person), and have magic-enhanced items, but lack what's considered "true magic".
This is also the same country that dropped that magic A-bomb mentioned in Fabian's app and nearly broke important things in the world with it, hurp.
Kaja
- 14 years old
- Fabian's BFF, though really brosis is probably more accurate.
- Despite being kind of small and pretty young, she's a great fighter. Which is what makes her scary.
- She and Fabian consider themselves more of "equals" as opposed to "siblings"; she just seems to leave a lot of big decisions to him because he's the oldest.
- ...Unless he does something stupid. Then she'll bitchslap sense into him.
- She kind of has Fabian whipped. Just giving a disapproving look is enough to deter him, or at least reconsider.
- Kind of...fatalistic? She's been poor all her life and seriously, honestly cannot imagine ever being not poor. She also kind of figures she'd probably be dead by 20, on the principle that a lot people don't live very long past that on the street.
- She's cool with all of it, though.
Marcell
- 12 years old
- Is like two steps away from becoming this complete nervous wreck. Jumpy, kind of paranoid and expects pretty much everything to bite him sooner or later.
- Fastest runner, and one of the sharper kids, at least in the sense that he's more acutely aware of his surroundings than either Alp or Lilya.
- Most emotionally vulnerable! He's the only one out of them who doesn't want to be there, and he's still reeling from the trauma of being abandoned. He's. Not coping very well, which is to say he's not thinking about it and hoping it'll go away eventually.
- At the same time, his relationships with the other kids are the healthiest ones he's ever had and he's just as dependent as everyone else.
- He can make a barrier. It has all sorts of conditions to it however, which makes it kind of limited in practice.
Alp
- 11 years old
- Foreigner, so isn't limited by that gd curse.
- Former slave; his slave collar malfunctioned and he took the chance to run the hell away.
- That said, it's still working. While it won't kill him automatically for not hearing his master's voice every 48 hours, it still shocks him whenever he tries to take it off, use most of his magic spells or if he hears a certain word.
- Most outwardly pleasant personality; uses cute appearance and childish charms to occasionally get free stuff from shopgirls.
- In the face of Terrible Shit, copes with it by laughing at it. He figures that that's all he can really do. He's been shocked so many times that he takes comfort in cracking jokes about the collar.
- Has a small repertoire of elemental magic, most of which he can't use anyway.
Lilya
- 8 years old
- Has the creepiest looking red eyes ever.
- Kind of the team baby because she's both the youngest, smallest and...dumbest, really.
- Honestly a nice kid! But that may only be because of how young she is.
- Usually ends up being the distraction when the older kids shoplift, or follows Alp to add extra moe points.
- Not...entirely all there. She doesn't quite understand how crappy everything is, since as far as she's concerned her life now is much, much better than her life then.
- Direct eye contact with her induces hallucinations in the other person, which can range from "kind of creepy" to "asdfghjkl WTF WTF WTF AHHH".
- Doesn't fully comprehend that she can mindrape people by looking at them; just realizes that it attracts attention that isn't good for either her or the others.
General
- All of them are good runners and climbers, to varying degrees, excluding Lilya who can't climb well. She normally just piggybacks Fabian or Kaja if she can.
- Fabian, Kaja and Marcell are the only ones with any skill in stealing; Fabian's better at shoplifting while the other two focus more on pickpocketing.
- Kaja, Alp and Lilya are all functionally illiterate. They can read enough to more or less understand signs, but otherwise can't read anything beyond a very simple level and can't write at all.
- They have a very acute sense of "stuff", and a kind of distrust of fortune. Since they don't own much to begin with, and what they do have has to be shared between all of them, they have a very loose idea of "personal belongings" which also extends to other people (that's why they're okay with stealing things). Most of them are unlikely to keep a lot of things if they were able to, either because they've spent so much time going without that they don't see the point to it or they don't want to attach themselves to things when it's all been lost before.
- Sorta obviously, they try to avoid involving themselves in confrontations as much as possible, considering the majority are tiny and wouldn't last very long in a real fight. Similarly, they never, ever reveal the extent of their muscle unless it's do-or-die. Fabian and Kaja have a weapon each hidden on them, and the kids have their abilities/magic -- they draw unnecessary attention if used carelessly, and the less people who know how much they can do, the better.
