Day 17 continued - Didn't quite make it into Kentucky. Stopped in a college town called Carbondale about 50 miles north of the Kentucky boarder. Carbondale hosts Southern Illinois University, home of the fighting Salukis. (whatever the hell that is.) There is a state park about 10 mile out of town. Took me forever to find the campsite. Hey, I'm so glad you got to see KY. I love my home state.

Small earthquakes are not super common, but also nothing too weird in the KY/TN area. More common though are earthshaking rolls of thunder during vicious and beautiful summer storms.

Try the boiled peanuts and roadside produce once you get a bit more southwards. It is wonderful.

Funny. I read my dad's comment first and didn't realize what he was talking about. I'm actually very allergic to peanuts.
