Does this mean we'll get to meet Spider-Man in the next Kingdom Hearts game?

Okay, so apparently Disney bought Marvel comics. While I am currently too lazy and busy to actually look up the details (that will come later tonight or tomorrow, most likely), I do have a quick first blush comment for all the doomsayers that I'm sure are out there.

Chill out. (Does anyone use that phrase anymore? Oh well, I am now.) Seriously.

As someone who's sat through the Disney College Program recruitment video about three or four times now, I'd like to point out that Disney owns a lot of things, like ABC Family and ESPN, right off the top of my head. Granted, I don't watch sports if I can help it, but I'm pretty sure Disney isn't slipping Hannah Montana or a dance number from High School Musical into your Monday Night Football. Same goes for whatever family drama's showing on ABC nowadays. So no, all joking in my subject line aside, I really don't think we're suddenly going to see Mickey Mouse in the next Avengers miniseries.

And for those of you who may think that this will mean that your comics are now all going to be made kid-friendly, I'd like to ask everyone to actually think back to their childhoods. Remember Mufasa and Bambi's mom? Go ahead and take a look at the whole subsection of the Nightmare Fuel page on TV Tropes dedicated to this stuff. Yes, Disney does know how to be dark And you want twisty, complicated plots and shifting allegiances? Pirates of the Caribbean. That is all.

Besides, if you think about it, Disney and Marvel comics actually make a pretty good fit. You've got good guys, bad guys, and those who are just on their own side, superpowers, deals with devils (granted, none of them involved wishing away a whole marriage and the life of an unborn child...), people dying for real, and people dying for a little while before miraculously coming back to life.

Seriously, look past the teenybopper sitcoms and the direct-to-DVD sequels. This deal isn't automatically going to be the end of Marvel as we know it. Just wait and see for a little while before you start freaking out, okay?
