Society encourages it though. Every person is taught that what s/he wants is most important. Have it your way, the customer is always right, everyone's a unique and special butterfly and all that.

I read an article recently about a study conducted on a bunch of college kids, where the results showed that the current generation is statistically the most self-centered yet. That's a bit scary.

that is a scary statistic, i hope it's exagerrated, I really do. Working C.S. has taught me how helpless and whiney people can be as well.
