I've been thinking again. Which is never a good sign.

I've wondered lately what the hell I'm going to do with my life. I keep seeing people that have known what they were going to do since third grade or whatever and they seem so certain of having a life enjoying what they are doing. I, on the other hand, have absolutely no clue about what I want to ( Read more... )

don't worry! I picked psychology before I even got into college, and now I'm not going to do anything of the sort. In fact, I have NO IDEA what I'm going to do and I'm graduating in a month. yay me! ::hugs:: you'll be fine. just look for internships you're interested in and you'll be fine with whatever

Ahem [raises hand way over on the west coast] Where on the west coast would you pehaps go? I'm actually pretty seriously considering moving down to Portland after school (spent last weekend there and it was A-FUCKING-MAZING), at least for a while if not permanently, which is...well, slightly closer to the middle of the west coast. But you may want to rule out Seattle...trust me, the constantly overcast skies will kill your soul...

I'm kinda feeling where you're coming from. Just that I have a passion or whatever you said, but can't really do shit with it for a career :( Look at it this way: a lot of the people I know who've known what they wanna do for years have just done that because they've felt pressure to - here you've got a chance to do what YOU actually want to do! That doesn't help me given my predicament, but MAYBE it will help you...?

Pee ess, I totally forgot Casadaga was out...just randomly saw it lying on the shelf today and was like "wait...WHAT??" Sigh. Oh conor.

first of all. hug hug hug!!!!!!!!!
CP weve allll been there (in fact, most of us ARE there)! i may love writing and music, but i know, logically, im not going to make money as an author or a singer, so i will most likely end up in the business world... have i taken ANY business courses in the slightest? no, but we all know life and jobs is all about connections... stay close with the people you meet abroad this summer (YAYYY!) and faculty, and parents' stuffy friends who might actually have some good networking!!!

hey, my sister studied politics in college, and now shes doing healthcare public relations in nyc, nothing at all like what she studied, and she just learned on the job and loves it!

the woman who founded hewlett packard majored in medieval history in college!

AND, i want to live on the west coast, too!!!!!!!! california, or basically anywhere colorado and over would be prime! ill hang out with you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

love you!

BTW - most of those people who knew they wanted to be a vet or a doctor or a whatever since they were a little kid get so obsessed with their goals they don't have any fun, get too stressed out, have anxiety attacks and drop out of medical school.

I thank the lord that I'm not one of them. That's the other thing too, some people might seem like they're those people, peopel always assume that I am, and they're totally not.

Your major means nothing, just get some work experience/interning, get a diploma, and get a job.

Plus I believe there's a meeting at 5:00 tonight in one of the tidewater rooms on how to adjust to life after college - including meeting people in some place completely new and different.

:: HUG! ::

no worries cornelius, the uncertainty is what makes life interesting. Last year I got to meet a bunch of people who did marketing for booz allen hamilton. Of the 10 or so people, one was an art history major, one was a fine arts major, others were history or english majors. Out of everyone, there was only one person who studied marketing.

And its not like everyone keeps the same job their whole life...people change careers quite often. You know what I really want to do with my life? teach mentally retarded children, no joke. Somehow I got wrapped up in international studies because I thought it was more practical, but that doesn't mean that maybe I'll have some sort of mid-life crisis and change what i'm doing with my life.

If all else fails a couple of my friends last summer worked for the Nevada Conservation Corps and basically upkept national parks and stuff....moral of the story, we can always just turn into mountain people and form our own TRIBE.
