Yeah, pretty ridiculous, ain't it? It's like we're livin' in a sitcom here. Just wait till ya hear'a kinda shit'is town pulls on'a regular basis.

I know how you feel, though. Last month I was on'a front lines, next thing I know I'm wakin' up here.

[A pause. Meiling didn't mention this ...]

That in Japan somewhere?

That's right.

Huh. [Well, he might go ahead and ask this one ...]

You, uh ... You know that "Scarlet Devil Mansion" she works at? That's in'a same place, yeah? Do you hear a lot on whether or not'a mistress there, um, feeds on innocent people?

Meiling kept tellin' me "not to worry about it," but somethin' like that, I ain't gonna let go easy.

I know about it, yes. Her mistress, Remilia Scarlet, is what you might know as a vampire. Inevitably, this means she needs to feed on people to survive.

If her gatekeeper is saying that, though, it probably means Remilia isn't here.

Yeah, she told me she isn't ... an' she told me she's a vampire, too. I was just, uh, wonderin' about her "feeding habits." 'Cause most stuff I hear about vampires, they ain't exactly merciful.

[And he might be more than a little bothered considering humans are an endangered species where he's from! His tone of voice reflects that concern, at least.]

Understandable. Morals aside, though... Considering people come back even if they're killed here... it's probably nothing to worry about, is it?

[He sounds just a little unsettled by how Keine takes this.]

Well, you know what they say; "character is what you are in'a dark."

Besides, dyin's a bitch. I should know. I don't wanna see innocent people get preyed on.

Hn. In any case... You should at least know that she has a rather light appetite. This means that her victims generally don't die from their wounds... and neither do they turn into zombies or vampires like her, in case you're concerned.

Still, considering she'll be brought here as a human first, before slowly regaining her original form, there's probably nothing to worry about until she does turn up. [Oh, if only she knew Remilia was going to turn up fairly soon...]

That's ... actually a big relief, yeah. That's what I was worried about. 'Cause most of'a time, when you hear about vampires it ain't like that at all.

Though, you think she'd have much interest in'a blood packs at'a hospital?

What you hear of vampires? I suspect most of what the general populace hears tend to be over-dramatizations of reality.

Blood packs from a hospital... I highly doubt that. The Scarlet Devil isn't known to have any relations to those at the Eientei, after all. [realizing he might not know what she means, she quickly adds:] -- our local doctor's place, I mean.

Well, I dunno if your local doc got pulled in'a Mayfield or not, but there's a hospital here too. In fact ... I met this lieutenant here, she's a sniper from her own military back home-Mayfield's got her workin' as a nurse. She's been helpin' me with some, uh ... medical needs of my own.

In case that Remilia ever shows up or anything an' you talk to her much? Maybe let her know, see if she'd be interested in gettin' blood pack supplies ... For when'a time comes an' all.

Gettin' blood packs here can't be any harder than what I'd asked of'a Lieutenant, anyway.

It's not really my place to suggest such a thing to her, but I'll try.

Ahright. Worth tryin', jus' in case she ever shows up. Already met another vampire here. Called himself a "Dead Apostle Ancestor."

I don't think he's as "nice" about his needs as this Remilia sounds.

Such an odd name. Wonder what he's really like, all things considered?

Well, his name's Merem Solomon. "Dead Apostle Ancestor's" kinda like'a USDA Prime of vampires, from what he told me. Really old, really powerful. Never knew vampires had a gradin' system for themselves, but there ya go.

[Only after does he say that, does Balin realize the irony in using meat grade terms to describe a creature that preys on humans.]

He's a weird kid. He calls himself an "enemy of humans" even though he's workin for'a Catholic Church'a help take down threats to humanity an' what not. Apparently he's a "coworker" of a nun here in town, who's at'a church. Ciel, I think her name is. Haven't talked to her yet.

[Which reminds him ...]

Both of 'em guard'a church as a safe house, by'a way. If somethin' goes down, you can take people there to keep 'em safe. They did that durin'a "spring culling" event, so I've heard.
