The Lord Chancellor has proposed[1] that some of the proceedings of high-profile crimes are to be televised, so that "justice should be seen to be done". Leaving aside the merits or otherwise of his suggestion (and on the face of it I can't see a huge difference between that and the public gallery), I have a question that stems from it ( Read more... )

I would have thought the main problem would actually be ensuring the isolation and protection of the jury. Whether they're paying attention or not is rather a minor concern next to whether they're being intimidated, bribed, or otherwise influenced outside of the trial itself.

or securing the connection so that (say) a botnet didn't invade peoples' computers and throw the result.

I have an instinctive distrust of that kind of thing, I'm relatively sure that there are acknowledged psychological issues regarding the size and shape of groups and their behaviour in that kind of situation.
