I was actually stuck in quite the rut when it came to House of Leaves. I got my copy the day before I left for London, and about 4 months later had read the first 20 pages about 3 times (i kept putting the book down and forgetting what happened). Then, all of a sudden, I just got insanely into it. It was like my life just aligned with reading it in such bizarre ways, which I believe is how the book is designed. It actually occurred shortly after I had been experiencing night terrors of sorts (apparently yelling "YOU'LL NEVER TAKE ME ALIVE" and other horrid leaks of my subconscious). If I remember correctly, Johnny actually approached this book in a similar way, with a long lull of slow reading crapdom followed by an insane need to read. I was reading about 120 pages a day by the end =finished about 80% of the book in the last week (i even took a day off work to read it). It is easy to do speed through once just get past the labyrinth page layout. I think you should read it-- I did find it one of the scariest books I have read in a
