Author's Notes: Admittedly, this one sits a little .. I'm not sure how I feel about this. I don't think it's bad, or anything like that, but it's ... Darker than the rest. I guess that's all I really have to say.
Jonghyun wonders, the first time he sees the film, what it would be like to eat human flesh. He wonders about the consistency, the right temperature to cook it. He wonders if it’s possible to eat it raw, like sushi. Take a strip of meat, slice, add rice and vegetables, wrap it in seaweed, and go.
When he’s alone that night, he takes a dismantled razor blade to his inner thigh, nibbles on his skin until it makes him heave, the vomit mixing with the blood on the bathroom floor.
--
He’s still walking with a limp when he sees Kibum. They’re neighbors since just a few months ago. Kibum greets him with a smile, an incline of the head that Jonghyun knows is more than he gives to other people.
A line from the movie flashes through his mind: When do we begin to covet? We covet what we see, every day.
A plan begins formulating, but he’s never been good at things like this. Too smart for his own good, he’s always been impulsive, rash. He’ll regret what he does if he acts now, so he forces himself back inside, doesn’t come out for three days, doesn’t come out until he knows what he wants, knows exactly how to get it.
Getting into Kibum’s apartment is easy, he trusts Jonghyun because he’s never given him a reason not to. Overpowering him is easy, too, because Jonghyun has always been strong, he’s always kept himself in good condition. And Kibum is delicate, gorgeous, feminine. But he fights against Jonghyun, as hard as he can.
There’s blood seeping through Jonghyun’s too tight pants when he drags Kibum back into his apartment.
He watches Silence of the Lambs with Kibum later, doesn’t notice the way he’s crying, as if he knows what is coming, as if he knows what will happen to him. Jonghyun only notices the tears when he comes back into the room, as the credits are rolling and he’s holding a knife, but even then the only thing he can think is thank god for that gag.
The first cut is the worst, he whispers as much to Kibum, though the boy’s eyes are squeezed shut now, against the pain or the reality of the situation, Jonghyun doesn’t know, doesn’t care. He can’t think about anything but the line he’s carving in Kibum’s stomach. So flat, so smooth.
He wonders if it will taste as good as it looks.
Kibum bleeds more than Jonghyun expected, more than he was prepared for. It makes him panic, if only for a moment, because it’s everywhere, dripping onto the hardwood floor, soaking through his socks. The sight sends shivers dancing along his spine, makes him think of rattling skeletons for a moment before he regains control, before he remembers the blood is real, that Kibum is bleeding. He makes a conscious effort to stop it, to keep Kibum from losing too much blood.
He’s half way to the kitchen when he decides he doesn’t care, when he knows he’s come this far,and he might as well go all the way. Too bad for Kibum, he thinks, too bad for him, too, because there’s no coming back from this.
Back in the living room, he grabs the bowl of skin, makes his first meal with it, doesn’t throw up this time, finds it palatable with some kimchi juice and red pepper flakes.
Kibum is unconscious when Jonghyun decides he wants to taste other parts of him, starts with the ears, slices them off one after the other, takes part of Kibum’s tongue to see if it’s like a cow’s, and what he really wants, he thinks is to taste those eyes, those gorgeous, striking eyes.
Kibum is too weak to protest, even as the pain wakes him, even as Jonghyun takes a spoon to one eye, pops it out and tosses it into the bowl with the other things he’s collected. Kibum whimpers, tries to speak through the blood stained gag.
Jonghyun isn’t sure what he’s saying, but it sounds a lot like, kill me.
