Author's Notes: Tired of time based prompts. This is me putting half my effort into them until I'm free of them. Which is now, I guess, since I already have prompt 10 finished. Whatevs. Enjoy~
Kibum freezes when Jonghyun tells him the news, that he'll be going to America for six months to study English. They've been told they'll never likely debut in the states, and they're fine with it. But then why this? Why the sudden hiatus for Jonghyun to study a language he's only ever shown a passing interest in?
"What does this mean?" Kibum doesn't finish his sentence, doesn't say what he really wants to say, he knows that Jonghyun understands, that he knows what Kibum really means is, /what does this mean for us?/
Jonghyun can only shrug, run his fingers back through his hair. "I dunno," he says, trails off because Kibum pulls him into a tight hug, whispers in his ear.
"Please don't go.."
A week later Jonghyun arrives at the airport with Kibum and the others. Jinki keeps Taemin in the van. He doesn't say it's because he's afraid of crying, but Kibum knows it is. Just like he knows Minho only follows them inside to still rumors before they get started.
They see Jonghyun off with impersonal goodbyes. Two short hugs. Kibum said goodbye the night before, when the others gave them the room to themselves, promised not to interrupt.
The ride back to the dorm is the worst, because all Kibum wants is to cry. He hates it, hates the weakness as much as he hates the pain. But there's nothing he can do, he supposes, no way to stop the tears once they get started.
They promise to webchat whenever their schedules allow, to call, but the company keeps working them, keeps them apart on accident or on purpose. And six months later, Kibum waits at the airport with Minho and the others, to see how Jonghyun has changed.
