Once more he allowed himself a genuine smile. Maybe she couldn't tell, he was very good at faking. But he had faith in her observational skills. Any praise he offered would be empty words by now.
He'd brought a lot of little gifts today. Mostly things to help with training, more medical scrolls, explanations of how to make simple medicines, bottles with hard to find chemicals.
And then three more scrolls, sealed with chakra and metal. They were the ones he'd really come to talk about, but pleasantries first.
Never hurt to be polite.
"How are you today, Hanabi?"

"Well enough, thank you," said Hanabi. "I've figured out a new technique, as you just saw."
Three guesses on which snakey bastard she intended to use that on.
"How are you?"

His major ones had not been going nearly as well, but then, nothing was ever perfect. "One of them might interest you, even."

"Oh? There's a lot of things that might interest me, Kabuto-sensei."
She was a little startled at herself for calling him that...but then, he was, more or less, her teacher of late. That was the way shinobi addressed their tutors and instructors, and doing that with Kabuto gave her a sense of comfort. Things were nothing like she might have predicted they'd be even a year and a half ago, but it did provide a small bit of grounding.
