I know lj can become cumbersome with many friends etc, and sometimes people have default views to not include some people (though personally I don't) I certainly don't expect comments, being a very rare commenter myself (especially being in australia, but probably because I only really comment unless I feel I have something useful to add, and since

Erm.. I do read, but a journal isn't really something that should be up for criticism. It should be something that's yours, a piece of you that the people on your friends list are blessed to get to see.
