NYC: Day 1

Sep 22, 2009 06:21

After five hours of sleep, we awoke at 5:00 A CST, to get ready to go to the airport on Monday morning.  We packed our bags the night before, had everything in a pile, and clothes for the day set-up.  Groggily, we donned our outfits, and began to head down stairs to meet my mom who was playing chauffer that morning.  We loaded the truck and headed ( Read more... )

Sounds like a great start! J, I've never seen you write so much - I love the way you phrase your descriptions.

As for wandering around the city alone, seriously, it's fine. I wandered around Harlem on my own for a day and felt safe - just tell K. you'll take standard tourist precautions and you'll be fine. I think part of the fun of traveling is spending small amounts of time on your own and then reconvening with your traveling partners to discuss what adventures your both had!

Glad to hear you both made it to NYC safe. Thanks for the lovely messages on my Facebook wall. I felt very loved when I read them. ^_^ Have a great time on your honeymoon! I love you both.

My amusement for the morning has been coming up with scenarios in which being a 6'4" redhead in a kilt was no deterrent for trouble, but having Katya along was.

Mugger 1: Let's mug that guy!
Mugger 2: Which one?
Mugger 1: The giant redhead built like a tank!
Mugger 2: Yeah, let's get him!
Mugger 1: WAIT! HE'S GOT A TINY BRIDE WITH HIM!
Mugger 2: GYEAAAH! ABORT, ABORT, ABORT!

Glad you guys are having fun.

Much love,
Rowan

Thanks for taking the time to blog about the start of your adventures! Seeing your text about having a fillet at Tavern on the Green made my mouth water. If nothing else, y'all are getting a culinary experience!

And I loved hearing you describe the energy of the city. I guess it never occurred to me to peg you as the urban spirituality type, but you definitely have the sound of someone who can love a big city. It takes a certain type of personality to be able to harmonize with that kind of energy on a regular basis, but it's cool when it happens.

As a random side note, some random guy just joined up with Toastmasters yesterday and in his introductory speech mentioned that he had been part of a comedy troupe called Upright Citizens Brigade. I had to laugh because it made me think of you two, possibly watching the same thing thousands of miles away in NYC.

Also. This was just about the cutest thing I've seen in ages.

I surprised K with a copy of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, to which she squeed and read eagerly while I watched ( ... )
