Science Rules

Yesterday I sat in a room with three other people (one cranky old guy and two of my friends) and interviewed (well, Mike interviewed) Bill Nye the Science Guy. He seemed genuinely amicable. I've been at a couple of college speeches he did over the years. Once you hear him speak more than once the "comical" stuff starts getting annoying. Not so funny once you've heard "dare I say it Change the world" a hundred times, not to mention the vaguely ethnic gravelly voice you mentioned. See, I know exactly what you mean without hearing it. He has a few stock phrases he repeats over and over. most of it is repeats of phrases he said on the show, and that was a LONG time ago. You are very lucky he was amicable since he's a pretty cranky and lonesome old man himself these days, A sad sack. Maybe you'll invent and be a new kind of Science Guy yourself though! Science rules!

Yeah, he said that line a few times in the time we were there. It gave me the impression that the fun loving Bill isn't the real Bill exactly. More of a face he put on (well) to make his subject come across better. He seemed way more tired and (as you put it) lonely than I expected. I saw all these faults. But hey, if I was going to talk about the Science Guy to people who cared I'd give him the rose colored glasses treatment... for old times sake.
