Online everyone has the opportunity to appear brilliant. Online thesauruses, dictionaries, encyclopedias. Spell check. The fact that on IM you can type out an entire thought that would normally have been spoken, and then delete it because you realize that it's something you shouldn't say. You could spend minutes deciding how to respond, a luxury

ive found that some of my more meaningful conversations recently have occured over AIM and e-mail. i dont know if thats a bad thing or not, but all the same im trying to actively work at getting better at communicating in a like manner in real life... ill let you know how it goes.

I take full advantage of this since I'm a pretty terrible communicator in "real life."

It's funny how many people don't take advantage of it, though.
