Steerpike is watching the Kitchen Boys during their lessons. Their school is a room with a balcony overlooking the floor, and the Earl leans against the balcony railing, watching the boys below. It seems that some of the older boys have taken to reciting long poems and regurgitating lengthy recipes.

Fuchsia was looking for Steerpike, searching the castle to speak to him -- oddly, the servants and Master of Ritual were ignorant of where he was, but a young page noted that he'd seen the Earl heading down towards the boys' school. And so Fuchsia rewarded the boy with a coin from her pocket, and journeyed to the school forthwith.
She stepped out onto the observation balcony where Steerpike's lithe figure bent over the rail to watch. "My lord," she murmured quietly.

Fuchsia reaches forward to clasp Steerpike's fingers, and let him draw her in tightly beside him. She leans her head briefly upon his shoulder in an affectionate motion.
