Week 3, run 3

So I did my third run of week 3 in the couch to 5K this morning. I did my hill run up Mount Eden, and I thought, after the first 90 second run, that I wasn't going to make it. But the 3 minute run went well, and when I got to the second three minute run in the program, I didn't want to stop running, so I didn't -- I extended it out to six minutes ( Read more... )

Yes = that's what I was trying to say about zoning out and becoming the run!

Last time I came close to that, I think, was on a long hike up a mountain near Banff this summer.

Is it a factor of distance that gets you there? Or the difficulty of the climb forcing it? or something else?

I think it's focus. It's as if the self just gets out of the way and lets the task at hand - running, climbing, writing, shooting zombies - take centre stage. To use someone's term (Charlie? Peter Watts?) the pointy haired boss of consciousness steps out of the office and goes on a long lunch break while the real work gets done.

And for physical activity I suspect that endorphins might be doing something as well.
