A Study of Roses

Every time I start a new cake decorating project, I have to go out looking for references for the various flowers I am trying to make. Finding high-res flower pictures at the angles I need is occasionally tricky, though... and it always seems to be out of season for buying real flowers. I was wondering if it was possible to use a dabbling of rose water on the petals of your sugar roses to simulate the real thing?

I guess if you make it too wet, they'll never set.

I'll find out soon enough when you teach this little grasshopper the ways of the sugar!

Rosewater would just make things dissolve, alas. I *do* have a cunning plan for next time I need brightly-coloured flowers, though: the powder colour needs to be mixed with white spirit so it can be painted on, but have the moisture evaporate off before the sugar dissolves. I've used vodka for the lack-of-taste in the past, but I'm pretty sure you can actually get a rose spirit as well: might be worth a try.
