One controversial and often reworded verse reads "Shave his *Insert body part here. Ruder the better.* with a rusty razor". Other verses are often reworded - "Put him in bed with the captain's daughter" has been changed to Boatswain's rope-end. Both the rope end and the captains daughter are whips, and the verses mean the same thing. This confused me no end!
Traditionally, nothing good comes of the drunken sailor, or indeed, the backing singer. Which I find amusing - first rum ration wouldn't be out of place issued at 11am. I'd be a pretty drunk sailor if I started at 11am.
Anywho, I'm rambling and it's early, so I'm not very creative yet! No verse for me yet.
