I made the rather unfortunate mistake the other day of picking up a new playwright by reading his best play. The playwright is Itamar Moses, the play was Bach at Leipzig, and I fell in love. Dunno how you can do that, personally. I'm for the most part totally incapable of reading two books by the same author in a row- it gets to the point where their style just stops surprising me.
