The following are questions asked by people who have had problems with the layouts and the answers that have solved their problems and also a few things i've added myself that have helped people.
Q: "I've read the rules and followed the instructions but the header isn't showing up on my journal..."
A: Things to try:
Make sure there is a website listed in your userinfo. Go to "edit info" and add a website (any will do) where there is an option to add one, and save your changes. See the following screenshot for an example.
Make sure you are using the generator style and system 1.
If you have the same problem but there are no images just red x's:
Make sure once you've downloaded your layout and have EXTRACTED all of the files and have followed all of the other instructions, you upload your images to the net. I reccomend photobucket. Its quick easy and free.
Q:"I can't find the view source option" or "the html file isn't showing"
A: This is a fairly simple thing to figure out but even i was confused when i first started downloading things on the internet so here are a couple things to try that have worked for other members:
once extracted the files make sure you actually opened the html file. double click on it and see what happens. If a webpage type setting shows up then you will right click on it and choose "view source". Make sure you're not right clicking on any images or this will not work. click on an open space. If the webpage does not pop up and just a bunch of codes pop up in a notebook document it means your settings are not set to "open in IE". Thats okay though just copy the codes that pop up in the document because those are your overrides you need to put in your ovveride box. Pick up from there and continue the tutorial
Q:My entries aren't aligned correctly
A: Things to try:
Consider what browser you are using. Most of my layouts are made for IE 5.5+ and work in all screen resolutions. If you use mozilla/firefox/netscape/safari/opera, the coding is set to work but it is not certain for all layouts and i give no guaruntee because ive had mishaps with them before you can however adjust them to work for you using the tips below.
If your entries are still all over the place you might need to re-align them. Please let me know if this happens beacuse i will fix the layout so that no one else will have to do this in the future but here is how to fix it yourself:
The entries all aligned by 3 main elements
The "margin-top"
The "margin-left" and The "width"
The margin top alignes the entries from the top of the page and the larger the number the farther down the entries will go.
The margin left aligns the entries from the left of the page and the larger the number the farther to the right the entries will go.
The width speaks for itself making the entries wider as you raise the number.
Make sure you NEVER align the entries from the right and you always use PIXELS (px) when you adjust the other numbers.
Your job is only to find these elements and move the entries around until they are where you want them. Sometimes they are not coded together so you might have to search for them. It would be very helpful if you have to do this to attach the numbers you used for each with your comment about them being misaligned.
Q: How do i edit my sidebar information or change the links in my imagemap?
A: Things to try:
You're sidebar can be found between the "div" tags as seen in this next screencap.
You'll also see the examples for links as follows:(all [] should be replaced with <>)
[a href="
http://website.com"]Link title[/a][br]
Make sure you ALWAYS use the [br] tags to seperate lines.. Just hitting the enter key will not work in raw html.
In order to link to your friends etc. page you'll just have to use the above link tag in your navigation area.
The userinfo can be found at:
http://www.livejournal.com/userinfo.bml?user=username The friends page can be found at:
http://livejournal.com/users/username/friends The calendar at:
http://livejournal.com/users/username/calendar The memories at:
http://www.livejournal.com/tools/memories.bml?user=username Okay now onto the image map people. All you have to know is the webpage link you want to be used. I'll show you in the follow ss where to put them:
You're image map coding will look something like this and the red area is where your links will go. The blue area is showing you where you can label each link so that you don't lose track of them.
IF YOU NEED HELP WITH SCREEN RESOLUTION right click on the Desktop away from any icons go to properties...settings and you will see screen resolution make it 1024x768 all of our layouts are like that so you need ur screen to do that to!
