Slightly late review of the year - 2014

Jan 03, 2015 02:26

I think I pinched this from
davidbrider originally.

1. What did you do in 2014 that you'd never done before?
Lived with my boyfriend, ran (well, jogged!) 5km without stopping, spoke at a conference abroad and cooked quite a lot of new recipes.

2. Did you keep your new year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I was going to update my LJ more regularly. I failed!

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Three of my uni friends. Two girls and a boy between them.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
No.

5. What countries did you visit?
Luxembourg, France (with work), Greece (Crete) and Scotland.

6. What would you like to have in 2015 that you lacked in 2014?
A cleaner and tidier flat.

7. What dates from 2014 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
Boy moved in on 1st February 2014. Nothing else sticks in my mind.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Going out running regularly and completing an online programme to increase my stamina enough to run 5km without stopping. This year I'm going to try to get my time down from 45 minutes to 30 and maybe start trying to build up to 10km.

9. What was your biggest failure?
Although not something under my control, being really unwell while on our main holiday wasn't that great.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Normal colds and flu, some muscle strains from running and the gym and a nastly virus or possibly food poisoning while on holiday in Crete.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
A weekend break in the Cotswolds for Boy's birthday.

12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
Boy again. He puts up with a lot from me!

13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
Various politicians, world leaders and fundamentalists. The usual sadly.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Mortgage, bills, presents, holidays, food and going out.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Holidays!

16. What song will always remind you of 2013?
I can't think of one. Maybe the awful new version of the Band Aid song.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) happier or sadder? About the same.

b) thinner or fatter? I don't know. Definitely fatter than at the end of 2012. I fear I may have undone all my good work in the gym over Christmas!

c) richer or poorer? Poorer at the moment as I owe a lot on my credit card for Christmas stuff.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Reading, learning and cleaning. Same as last year!

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Drinking alcohol. I always seem to get a headache the next day now, even if I don't drink very much. I'm turning into my mother.

20. How will you be spending Christmas?
Spent Christmas Day and Boxing Day with my parents and uncle then went to Boy's parents' in Newcastle afterwards. Back in London with friends for New Year and then final Christmas with my sister and brother in law will be this Sunday. Phew!

21. Did you fall in love in 2014?
Nope. Still in love with the person I fell in love with in 2013.

22. How many one-night stands?
None.

23. What was your favourite TV program?
Started watching Community at last. Just started season two and loving it so far.

24. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Nope.

25. What was the best book you read?
I'm in the middle of reading 1927 by Bill Bryson at the moment and I think it's great. Must make time to finish it off.

26. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Nothing this year. Losing touch with music a bit :(

27. What did you want and get?
A tablet for Christmas. I'm a lucky girl.

28. What did you want and not get?
My 5km time down to 30 minutes. At least it's given me a project for 2015.

29. What was your favorite film of this year?
The Lego Movie! I also really liked Mr Turner. Bit of a contrast there.

30. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
Had fondue with Boy at a famous restaurant called St Moritz in London. It was yummy but I ate much too much. I was 33 years old.

31. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Less mould in my bathroom and fewer pigeons trying to make their homes in our block of flats.

32. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2014?
Old skool! I've hardly bought anything new.

33. What kept you sane?
Same as last year: Boy, my family and my work colleagues.

34. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
I don't think I did really. I'm not enjoying the beard trend at the moment though. Will be happy when clean shaven is 'in' again.

35. What political issue stirred you the most?
UKIP. Argh!!!

36. Who did you miss?
No one specifically, although, as with last year I wish I'd seen some of my friends more often.

37. Who was the best new person you met?
Friends of Boy's who we holidayed with in the Lake District.

38. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2014:
Don't worry so much. Most things can be fixed. Although I'm not sure I'll actually be able to put what I learned into practice.

39. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
Nope, still can't ever think of these.

If anyone out there is still reading this. Happy New Year!
