Often it doesn't, but if you're tricksy you can sometimes get around it. Try going down the list on this page: http://www.lunarnet.org/connect.php

Thanks for the help, I hadn't tried some of those options before ^^

...It still doesnt seem to work for me, though. I guess I'll just have to haul myself somewhere with wireless If I want to get on IRC...

If you can't get mIRC or the chatzilla clients to work, there's the Java applet that Lee and Gwendal came up with. It doesn't have all the features of normal IRC, but at least it can connect most people to the chan.

Thanks for the link as well ^^... I guess it's just not gonna work from my room, though unfortunately. I'll just have to relocate for wireless access when I need it.
