There is a good deal about the music scenes, but a lot of what I see now is based on elitism rather than an embrace of the ideals. And don't get me wrong, you need a touch of elitism to make the music scenes work. The whole mindset of "Don't talk bad about something that someone else likes" super doesn't work for punk. It gives the genre an identity when they can say this is or this isn't within the genre. But then there comes a time when your specifications of what is "good" or "legitimate" become so narrow that barely anything qualifies. It's gotta be about balance in that aspect.

What I have found is that after people are around the music a bunch, they kind of drown it out unless something new crosses their path. That is when it becomes a social club with the decorations of music.

I kind of hope it was only my friend and the strange punk scene around here that looks this way. I haven't done a study about this, but I had a lot of thoughts upon talking to the crazy array of people up here.
