Whoa. I saw the new Harry Potter tonight with Rob and Melissa. Damn. What a dark film. That's the darkest and most disturbing family fantasy film that I've ever seen. I don't know how people could ever really say that Empire Strikes Back or Episode III (or the LOTR movies) or Batman Bagins are too dark ( Read more... )

I saw it on Sunday and I thought it was good. I, as a matter of fact, liked it better than the LOTR films. I thought it would be full of Christian Fundamentalist overtones (my father told me that he heard that) but I was pleasantly surprised to see that it wasn't.

Well... Lewis was a devote Christian and the books were written with Aslan as an allegory for Jesus. Since then Xtians have imposed a LOT more allegory onto the story than I think was originally intended.

So first of all while it is Christian allegory, it is by no means Fundamentalist, and in all honesty the vast majority of the Christian-ness of it all can really be interpreted as mystic/mythologyical/general religious-ness, since so much of the Christian elements that Lewis pulls on are common to many mythologies (death and rebirth).

Pretty much everything except the part in I think the 4th book where Aslan says, 'btw I'm jebus, OMG!!1!'.
