secondly...Penance...*sigh* once again NO WHERE in the Bible does ANY one...ANYONE confess their sins to priest...Catholics base their belief of the sacrament of Confession (btw...the ONLY two sacraments in the Bible are that of baptism and the Last Supper!)on John 20:23 ("If you forgive the sins of any, their sins have been forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they have be retained"). Roman Catholics teach that in this verse Jesus gives Peter and the other Apostles the power to forgive sins. ...I'd like to say first off that Only God can forgive our sins (Teachers of the law in Jesus' time knew this...Mark 2:7)All John 20:23 is stating is that if we know the Gospels and scripture well...when people accept Jesus' teachings wholeheartedly we can honestly tell them that their sins are forgiven...not by a power given to us...but by our knowledge of Jesus' promise (this knowledge we get from knowing the Gospels)...and vise versa...if someone denies the teachings of Christ we can do the same...not by a power given to us...but by

*sigh* Purgatory...First let me say...when I talked to a CATHOLIC NUN about the reasons we have purgatory...she told me it was to make Catholics feel better She said for example that if a mass murderer had a COMPLETE change of heart and dedicated his life to God 5 minutes before getting a injection for the death penalty then we die the a year later after living a WHOLE life devoted to God...it makes us feel better to think that we would get to heaven first out of the two of them...when I asked her why we shouldn't rejoice that someone else in the world turned their life to God instead of being selfish and jealous...she just said "Alice...your old enough to know the world isn't like that"...which is true...but isn't the Church's job to show us, the world, what we should be like instead of inventing things to make us feel better?? Makes u really think...Now I know that this was just ONE person's opinion...but let me get to the basis...Catholics base their belief of purgatory on 1Corinthians 3: 10-15 (amoung other verses)...its way to
