what did you think of In Cold Blood? I got really into it, although I think there's some unnecessary data/info about people not central to the story. we watched a movie that Capote made called "Murder By Death" which was hilarious...i highly recommend it, it's like a parody of every type of detective movie all in one.

I loved "In Cold Blood". After I saw "Capote" I just had to pick it up and the book didn't fail to deliver. Personally I liked the "unnecessary data/info"...I thought the little things like learning about Perry's suicidal siblings and his Dad's failed Alaskan Lodge only made the book better. I've gotta check out "Murder by Death".

My aunt lived in New York City in the 70's, and she went to studio 54 sometimes, and Truman Capote was ALWAYS there. Once she asked him to dance and he said (read in Capote voice) "No thank you, Miss, but if I was inclined to dance with a lady, you would be the first one I asked."

awesome, awesome collection of books up there. i've only read 2/5, but those two are in my top ten favorite books, and anything by lester bangs has got to be good. actually, on second thought, i think i might have read that lester bangs collection... is that the one where he talks about the troggs and ? and the mysterians a lot?

one of these months i'm going to take a page from your book (ho-ho) and start posting my readings, too.

Yeah, Lester digs on The Troggs (Wild Thing) and ? and the Mysterians (96 Tears) quite a bit...I read those articles way back during the summer, howevers, on account of the fact that this anthology was my break-book for whenever I read something kind of dense or boring. I'll be picking up the 2nd anthology "Main lines, Blood Feasts, and Bad Taste" sometime...

What two books had you read? I'm guessing A Confederacy of Dunces (now in my top 10) and A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man (not in top 10).

portrait and in cold blood. my mom and i are solid joyceans (if that's not a word, i say it is!), and as soon as i thought i could make it through, i read that portrait. maybe ninth grade. in cold blood i read for school this year, and i liked it enormously, though seeing the movie put a different, post-reading spin on it.

nobody does it better than lester, right? even if i have no idea what he's writing about, the piece is sure to be fantastic.

but now, last night's daily show...
