So at 7:32 AM a gym member stopped in yesterday to workout as he typically did. We talked for five to ten minutes about I am Legend, life in general, and all that other crap that I talk aboutto fill the many dull hours of my existence. He went into the gym and twenty minutes later had a heart attack. I called 911 and they came 5 minutes later. ( Read more... )

*hugs* I'm sorry you had such a shitty day.

I hate bureaucracy. Fill out a form when a man just died? They should be happy you called 911 instead of flip out and pee your pants.

That is only the kind of ridonkulously bad days that occurs in the course of your life. And I agree with Mel. A guy had a heart attack. You're first concern should be to help the victim, not the paperwork that you'll have to do for helping him.

realistically, the man might have had underlying undiagnosed heart condition. Although many people work out to strengthen their hearts, at the age of 42 he wouldn't be at the stage of life where closely monitoring his exercise would be a concern. It's one of those tricky shoulda, coulda, woulda things that can bite you on the ass. We wouldn't have made my dad get his heart checked out in his 40s had my grandpa not needed a quadruple by pass. Considering that the man created stents, it's all very ironic.

That entire situation you had to go through blows. And it honestly sounds like you did the best things you could do. Sometimes bad things just happen.

And Jen's right, those underlying undetected heart conditions are tricky little suckers. Back in the days of high school we lost one of our varsity players to a heart attack on the football field. But you can't test every single one of your athletes for a preexisting heart condition when they've been fine.
