I've been thinking recently, maybe more than I should. However, I blame it on the recent rain; weather like that sometimes leaves nothing better to do. It causes the mind to wander over to subjects worth pointlessly dwelling over.
So I wonder, like I always have, if names are important. Or pointless.
I'm fairly certain that some of you on this island are familiar with Shakespeare's famous play Romeo and Juliet. It's not my personal favorite, but it contains the equally famous quote having to do with names and roses. As odd as it might sound, Juliet brings up a very interesting question: "What's in a name?"
So then, what is in a name? A definition of who you are? Something carefully chosen by your... parents to help carve out your future personality? Or maybe more realistically, simply something used to not confuse you with the rest of the population, a string of consonants and vowels that just happen to sound pleasing enough to tolerate for a short lifetime.
If the latter is the case, then we should all just be given numbers. Tedious, maybe. But just as relevant.
Despite this, I can't help but wonder what everyone else thinks of this subject. Do you even know what your own name supposedly "means"? Or maybe you simply don't care. Either way, I wonder...
((...Uh. I felt like making a Johan post and this is what happened. :o It turned out longer than I thought. I also have class now, so tags will probably come this evening. Or maybe during class lectures since I'm such a wonderful student.))
