Death pretended that he was going to fulfill this wish and took hold of a large new candle, but, desiring revenge, he purposely made a mistake in relighting it, and the little piece fell down and went out. The physician immediately fell to the ground, and he too was now in the hands of Death.

This author expects you to think that all doctors are dirty, greedy, power-hungry, egotistical scum. It's attitudes like this that make people distrust the entire profession. Just because some people ignore their oath, doesn't mean the rest of us do too.

That said, can anyone explain the "Simon & Martha All-Purpose Clinic and Flophouse" sign outside the clinic door? I have no problem until the "Flophouse" part.
