Fandom OTPs/Gripe Over Parts of That 'Why I Like Slash' Business

Dude, LJ. I've seen the navigation strip. If I wanted to use it, I'd be using it. Please do not set it up for me and make me have to delete it when I don't want it. Which, by the way, I don't--as I already established when you first came out with the thing ( Read more... )

My inspiration presently is a sad, sad, sad thing.

On the other hand: You have a NEW place?! Um, please tell me it is not a different place from what you told me it is, 'cos I kind of mailed out the DVD already.

:( Is there anything I can do to help? Write you pieces of girlsmut, blab on about something, buy you a few drinks (;))--anything?

It is different, but the new renter at that place knows my old housemate and should pass anything on, if it's not in the mailbox when I go down there or my old landlord doesn't intercept it and pass it along. All will be well!

Dude. I got it. Thank you! I've downloaded what seems like a great deal of BL manga in my day, but I haven't read most of the stuff you put on the DVD. I think I tried to DL Sex Pistols a while back, but never actually managed to get it, so this is a little exciting. Even beyond Ergo Proxy. :D

I've heard that argument, and I do have some sympathy for it--I'm thrown out of a story when characters invariably scream at orgasm, even though I've been told that it does happen--but this one seemed to be a different, but related, one. (Probably closer to the "I need a woman to identify with" argument.) I've seen a few people (and one recently, although I can't remember what the post was) say that they don't want to read about women just because women are familiar to them, and men are something they couldn't otherwise experience. Which totally makes me go ??? because I can think I understand my mother (for example) without also believing that I understand every woman in the world to a similar degree.

Yeah; that's pretty much my feeling.

I've never seen anyone use the last argument (in parentheses), but maybe that's because I don't read many of these.

I was exaggerating a little (I haven't seen it laid out exactly like that), but the argument went pretty much as I said. If you're using fanfic as porn, and you're a straight woman, I'm not surprised that you might not want to read about women having sex, even without weird justifications that make me think WTF.

I think I should probably stop reading that sort of post. :D
