the celestine prophecy

So I just read the Celestine Prophecy in one day. I don't know what to do, on one hand I think that the core of the book is extremely worthwhile and brings together everything I believe in in a concise and understandable way, but on the other hand I think the book itself-the writing, the story- was kind of crap. I mean I do agree with a lot of what ( Read more... )

ok, I just read the new Palo Coelho book called The Witch of Portobello. I think it probably deals with some of the same issues...The book overall is about the feminine aspect of religion (the "Great Mother"). Anyway, I liked some parts of the book, but overall, I felt like it was a "how to" book for people who want to be hippies and new age freaks and still have successful jobs and make tons of money (like Palo Coelho). Then at the end of the book they has all these extra attractions, that they had advertised in a sticker on the front of the book: interview with Palo!!! Palo's upcoming books!!! etc. shit like that.

Sounds like the kind of book that would catch my attention but I haven't heard of it. Although based on your description I don't know if it would be worth it. But I am really with you on the hippie/new age thing. A lot of legitimate and interesting ideas that seem to be grounded in quantum physics seem too "far out" or "trippy" to a lot of people that you can't really just talk about it. People just think you're a pothead or something.

i hadnt heard of it, i just bought it at the thrift store because i thought that i could just resell it on paperbackswap and get one that i would actually want. then i read it because it sounded kinda interesting. but i think i wasn't actually bitching about hippies/new age freaks. i think what i meant more is why can't i talk intellectually about spirituality, or spiritually about intellectual concepts? I guess thats what this theory is about: the combination of the mind with things like quantum theory, which in and of itself is very poetic if you ask me.
bottom line, i think it is worth it. You have to mire through a bunch of crap to hear interesting ideas. although tony said that even the ideas were just canned philosophy based on nature, particle physics, energy, whatev.
