Mmm that feels good. That knot in my back has been driving me mad for weeks. She has the hands of a goddess. In the weeks after Callie and Arizona had officially classed themselves as dating, they had held firm to Callie’s request to take it slow, which had worked much better than with Erica. Callie still questioned why that was, however she never voiced that to anyone, not even Mark. Not that she could get much time to talk to him lately. Between the two fledgling relationships, their friendship had taken on a mutually agreed hiatus. Neither was upset over it, they just knew that when the time comes that they are settled they could pick up where ever they left off. Callie was beginning to feel the strain of taking it so slow. It had been roughly 6 weeks since that night in the Boxing club when Arizona had kissed her so passionately. It had begun so tenderly and then moved so deep that Callie felt her body had slipped passed the barriers of the human existence and had moved on to something cosmic. She wasn’t a big believer in that sort of thing, but anyone who had experienced Arizona’s lips on theirs would probably verify that its true.
Their relationship had progressed so naturally that it was like it had always been the two of them. Arizona had stayed over a few times, but they had simply held one another. Simply may not be the right word for it. It felt to Callie like falling asleep in the most peaceful place on earth, despite Christina and Owens loud snores from the next room, she felt totally at ease with the world. Uncomplicated, nothing demanded of her other than just being there. Arizona slept like a baby, always curled up over Callie with her hand touching Callie’s cheek. Callie would lay awake for hours just stroking Arizona’s hair and marveling at the scent of strawberries and cream that seemed to drift from it like a ribbon of mouthwatering temptation. The only thing that seemed to shift Callie from this beautiful moment would be how she wasn’t craving sex. It was there in her mind, a lot, but the time never seemed right as though the perfect moment was just out of her reach. She pondered on it often and wondered if she was putting too much stock in perfection. It wasn’t like with Erica, where it was just there and new and something to try and experiment with. Newborn. The word kept creeping back into her head like a virus. One thought of it and it spread to feelings of insecurity. Arizona was different to everyone before. She made Callie feel as if there were nothing in the world but her. Often dropping everything to just smile in Callie’s direction, well other than in surgery of course, it made her heart soar just to see that smile. It was as though for the first time in her life she could breathe. She knew that if she messed up with the sex that Arizona would be ok with it, and just guide her. But she didn’t want that, she wanted to be an equal part of the whole.
The night at the Boxing club, Arizona had tended to Callie’s injuries so tenderly and with such devotion that Callie wanted to pick her up in her arms and disappear. Leave everything behind and start again, a clean slate for someone with so many crossings out. But she knew that running away wouldn’t make things perfect, standing tall and screaming out loud that she was wanted and needed to everyone that whispered about her abysmal year. She could breathe and Arizona was that breath. It scared her a little just how much she had fallen for this woman in such a short amount of time, but on reflection she didn’t care. It felt right and it felt wonderful.
“Penny for them?”
Arizona’s voice was little more than a whisper as she carried on kneading at Callie’s tired back. Her hands were a miracle cure, there was no doubt about that. Callie struggled to turn over while underneath Arizona’s thighs. It was less than graceful as her shirt got pulled in the wrong direction and pulled too tight across her arm, resulting in a hasty shuffle to loosen it. Arizona looked down on her the whole time, not helping by easing up on Callie’s trapped hips. When the shirt was sufficiently placed, Callie grinned up at Arizona. “Ok I need a blackout on that one.” She was well aware that she had used up her quota of ‘pretend that didn’t happens’ for the week, but maybe a sultry smile would win her another. Not a chance. Arizona grinned at Callie and tickled her fingers down Callie’s sides. She wouldn’t let her get away with that, so with her only free hand she reached for the scruff of Arizona’s shirt neckline. Pulling Arizona down onto her, she laced her fingers in those golden curls and began to nip at Arizona’s lip. Inhaling deeply that heavenly scent of Strawberries and cream she closed her eyes and let herself fall into the most incredible kisses that she had ever experienced.
Just as she was beginning to feel the stirrings of taking this further, Arizona sat up abruptly and folded her arms across her chest. With mock frustration she shook her head “Are you really going to make me pay a penny for those thoughts?” Callie’s mind scrabbled back to reality so she had a clue what Arizona was talking about. Then with a wiggle of her hips she pulled Arizona back until their noses touched. Her eyes were dreamy, they could easily make Callie walk over hot coals if demanded to. Gazing into them, Callie relented her thoughts. For the first time ever, she didn’t feel as though she were being laid bare when giving her private thoughts. Arizona could read her anyway, so why hide anything behind the walls of privacy.
“I was thinking about the past six weeks and how it has been the most amazing of my life. Because of you. I will freely admit when we first met and you accosted me in that bathroom, I was just intrigued. I was looking for someone to just give me some attention.” She paused and smiled. She loved that look that Arizona got when she was trying to figure out what was going on and coming up short. Callie steeled herself, this next part would hopefully clarify everything for Arizona. While assuring her that Callie was in this for the long haul. “But that little game of cat and mouse we played and everything that has made up this time we have had together made me realize that you haven’t intrigued me…” This dramatic pause would surely send Arizona’s mind reeling. Sure enough the cutest frown appeared on her brow. Callie leaned up slightly to lay the lightest of kisses on Arizona’s lips “You have totally taken me over.” Callie’s voice dropped to a new level of husky as she brushed her lips over Arizona’s cheek and whispered in her ear “You are dangerously close to making me fall in love with you. That’s a big achievement. Especially as looking back, no one has really made that impact.”
This was true. Sure she had been devastated when George left her, and when Erica left. But George and Erica were too fast. It all happened too fast. She recovered and moved on with her life. This slow and gentle approach had made a deeper mark on her than any other. Arizona had made her chase, had been the chaser. Arizona had listened to Callie’s childhood story without interruption, without judgement. Arizona had held Callie as she cried through the night after her fathers visit, he had relented in the end. But earning his disapproval even for a moment was too much to bare for her, when he demanded she returned home, even at that early point, Callie knew she couldn’t leave even if she wanted to. George wouldn’t have known what to do, Erica would have been little comfort. Arizona let her get it all out then told her that no matter what Callie chose to do, she would support her all the way.
Arizona looked down at her now with a look that Callie didn’t quite understand. It was contemplative and yet it was as though Callie had just said something cute which would be put up there with her first word and first steps in the baby book. “I’m done with my little speech, you can say something now….” The long silence was awkward as Callie desperately wanted to know what was going on in Arizona’s mind. Fate kicked her in the chest at that moment, just as Arizona’s lips parted to speak, Christina burst in with her hand over her eyes.
