“Torres, did you tidy up?!” Of course Callie had tidied up. Even though Arizona knew by now that Christina was a slob, it was still embarrassing to have Arizona walk into the apartment only to come face to face with old take-out wrappers and underwear that never made it to the laundry basket. Callie grunted in assent to Christina’s question. The snarling beast at the door didn’t deserve a dignified response.

“Where the hell are my textbooks?! They were right there on the coffee table.” Callie stifled a scathing retort instead choosing the witty one liner.

“Look with your eyes, not with your mouth.”

“What the hell is that supposed to mean?”

Callie groaned. Living with Christina was like being the mother of a particularly slovenly teenager. Her one saving grace was her boyfriend, Owen. He acted as the restraining force on a tornado. Yang never screamed at him when he tidied up, she wouldn’t dare because even though he wouldn’t scream back, the silent looks he gave her made her realize she was being a tool. Callie groaned as Arizona slid from on top of her hips. This wasn’t going as planned. “Your damn books are still on the coffee table. Try looking at the nice neat stack of them, right in the middle.” Christina huffed and made to exit, hitting her knee on the doorframe in the process. That made the interruption worth it. Very much worth it. That doorframe never stood a chance.

As the door closed Callie let a relieved sigh escape from her lips. Where were they… Ah yes… Arizona was laying on her back, looking at the door with an amused expression. That expression changed to one of pure pleasure as Callie rolled herself over to lay over Arizona’s slender form. “I believe that you were about to give me a response to my outpouring of emotion.” Callie gave a lopsided smile as she angled her hips to ensure Arizona had no method of escape. Her hands reached under Arizona’s head to tangle in her hair.

“I was? Really? Hmm.” That’s not an answer. I want a detailed analysis of how much you want me! Callie’s pout made Arizona chuckle and wiggle her hips in a very half hearted attempt to escape. “I assume you want me to tell you that I am falling for you too Calliope?” Damn right I do! Nodding down at Arizona as solemnly as she could. “Well I can’t do that. It would be lying.” What the hell?! This isn’t happening. Oh god. What did I do? I thought it was all going so perfectly. Callie’s face had fallen so dramatically that Arizona felt the need to hold it up with her hands. “Calliope, it would be lying, as I’m not falling for you… I fell for you a long time ago. I fell hard.” YES! Callie scores! I am a rockstar!

Their lips met with a new understanding. Callie, as far as Arizona was concerned, had some catching up to do. Arizona, as far as Callie was concerned, was going to give her a heart attack one of these days. The kiss lingered between them as their lips reluctantly broke apart. The sound of a pager going off would be the only reason they would have stopped then. Another perfect moment whisked away on the wind. It would have been the right time, both declaring themselves to one another and realizing this was going far further than just causal dating. Alas, duty called and the moment was snatched away. Arizona closed her eyes and sighed sadly as she reached to grab for her phone.

“Robbins here… What? … I’ll be right there…. Torres… Yeah she is here…. Ok, I’ll ‘drag her ass in’ too. Be there in 10.” As Arizona shut her phone, Callie gave her a quizzical look as she had never been summoned in at the same time as Arizona. “Looks like you’ll be working with me today. Super.” Those dimples should come with a warning. “To the Batcave!” Callie couldn’t help but laugh. Arizona nerded out far more than Callie would have ever thought possible, on anyone else it would have been annoying but with Arizona it was, for lack of a better word, hot.

“So, whats the caper Bat…uh.. Woman?” Callie needed to catch up on her comic books, so she could at least look semi knowledgeable. She felt a little silly sometimes when Arizona obviously went into kid mode. But it was endearing and came in handy to diffuse tension. The look of amusement on Arizona’s face made Callie shrug “I got a lot to learn huh?” Arizona’s gently kiss on the lips along with the rolling of her eyes was definitely an agreement.

“The caper, as you so eloquently put it, is one of those cases I hate. I mean I hate seeing children in hospitals at all. They should be out having fun. But these cases I really hate. Reeeally hate.”

Callie knew from that what she was about to walk into. Arizona had expressed her feelings before about certain cases that made her struggle to keep calm. Part of her was glad she was working with Arizona today, at least she would understand what Arizona was going through. But most of her was struggling to come to grips with what she was about to see. She had only worked on one other of these cases, and it stuck with her to this day. It was going to be hard to add another one to the memories.

As they walked together across the street Callie took Arizona’s hand in her own. She could feel her shaking and wanted to give as much comfort as she could before the situation was in front of them. She knew that it wasn’t the cold day that was making Arizona shake. It was anger. Arizona’s face showed no sign of the rage Callie knew she was feeling. She looked calm and composed. It was only the tense grip on Callie’s hand that betrayed her.

Today was so cold. The snow was fresh, and the air was biting. It made their eyes sting as they walked the short distance across the street. The lobby was deserted as they headed for the elevators. They stood together in silence as they waited for the elevator to collect them. Stepping inside Callie wrapped her arm around Arizona’s waist as she felt the beautiful Peds surgeon rest her head on her shoulder. They both knew that this would be a long day.

As they stepped off the elevator the sound of a very agitated man reached their ears. He was yelling from somewhere down the corridor, the majority of the words were cut off. But as they walked closer they could discern the majority of what he had to say.

“He’ll be fine… No I don’t give a damn what you think. I know what’s best for him. That’s my kid and you can’t touch him without my say so. And I don’t say so… Hey! Hey! I said leave him alone!”

Exchanging a glance at one another they silently agreed that this would be a very long day.
